TLDR : Answer Summary
There is some confusion regarding whether South African passport holders can perform a Non-B visa run to Laos. It appears that they can only apply for a visa at the Thai consulate in Vientiane and not at Savannakhet. The process now requires South Africans to be in Laos to apply for an eVisa online after uploading proof of entry. It's advised to check the requirements ahead of time and possibly have an employer help with the documentation.

Just got confirmation from a "Service Provider" and South African passport holders CAN indeed apply for visas at the thai consulate in Vientiane but NOT Savannakhet..

So go to the eVisa online website, select the Non-B for the reason you're applying see what documentation is required, have your employer compile it, GO to Vientiane and apply online for the eVisa

This is how that system works up in Lao now, you have to physically be IN Lao, you upload your Lao visa/entry stamp as proof, you apply online with the eVisa system then take the confirmation to the consulate and pay in CASH for the visa.. It should be approved within a couple working days after that

Unless I'm mistaken S/A passports can ONLY apply in Vientiane.

OR

they could when it was in person application process.

Savannakhet wouldn't let S/A passports apply thru that consulate

Don't know how it is now that they went to eVisa online. I'd sure have my employer call Vientiane and ask them before you slog all the way up there to apply for the visa
