Sitting in the office right now, came for a residence certificate x 2 for car purchase and D/L. Was asked for 300 baht each. I respectfully said that the website advises this is a free service. The boss of immigration confirmed it recently in a newspaper article. Had my Thai landlord with me so called him over. The two women then told me not to worry and to return to the waiting room. Will update whether I get the certificates without a problem

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster went to obtain two residence certificates for a car purchase and driver's license in Phuket, where they were initially asked to pay 300 baht each. The poster insisted that these certificates should be free according to information from a Thai newspaper article. Despite the initial confusion, the poster received the certificates without issue after waiting briefly. Other commenters shared their experiences with varying fees for the same certificates in different locations, highlighting inconsistencies in charges at immigration offices across Thailand.
I got it for free as the law says. As a foreigner who is ashamed at our reputation because so many other foreigners do the wrong thing, it is my duty to respect the laws of the Thai people even if some Thai people don’t. Also, if I’m going to give away money I’d rather give it to an orphanage
bcz of many foreign people look like u, they rip off us 300 baht per certiricate which is illegal. next time u pay that money pls ask for receipt too(if they can give any!)
It was Phuket office per my check in above. Got the two certificates in 20 mins without any further problem or comment. It must have been a simple misunderstanding by new staff or something like that 😉
I just paid 300 Baht, and walked away guessing it was probably 100 Baht.. A couple we both know paid 600 Baht each previously at same office as I got it 🤨🤗
