 yes a tourist visa is then issued for 30 days, which can be extended at immigration for another 30 days once inside the country

As an American, you can do Visa on Arrival at the Bangkok airport when you arrive, no need to get one beforehand

 And for US Citizens who are Visa Except, they should not need to upload a Visa on that second document upload, correct? So the embassy can wait until 2 days before the flight and then my friend will have 2 days only to book ASQ?
