Fair and you’re not wrong, but it’s the one “tourist” visa with a significant amount of additional privileges built into it, like specifically guaranteeing a bank account and offering assistance in obtaining it.

Will a one-way ticket to Thailand cause issues upon arrival?

I’ve flown into BKK many times from the US, mostly one way flights, on a range of carriers, and never once been asked for any documentation. This is obviously not the experience everyone has though, and they CAN ask, so might as well have onward travel booked that you can cancel and not have to worry about it.
