I have been working all over Thailand for over 14 years and never once has any immigration officer asked me to present a TM30, I have never been late on any 90-Day reports and only had 1 day overstay because I had to wait for proper documents from my employer (they actually paid the fine for me and wrote a letter explaining why I was one day overstay), I guess I must be one very lucky person
You could end up in limbo because you would have already exited the country you were in and denied entry to the country you are trying to enter. That is a possibility when make land border entry, at the airport it is different, there you are at the mercy of the immigration official
