Ok. First of all, it was always legally possible to switch visa type without leaving the country, it just requires more paperwork so it was just easier to get it outside of the country prior to all this.

Volunteer visas are a real thing but obviously caveat emptor and make sure its a legit offer.

Other options include getting an edu visa.

Additionally the govt may extend amnesty, but dont expect confirmation of it until the 11th and a hour.
