A 6 month multiple entry visa is a good choice. You have to leave every 60 days on a visa renewal run, or extend for 30 days, but leaving gives you the chance to check out SE Asia, and it's inexpensive to do so. If you like it here yo can convert to a type O visa, then a retirement visa. Retirement visas come with increased financial requirements.

Thats when a visa service comes in handy. Bumrungrad International in BKK has one in premises. Depending on the date you entered you should have been covid exempt. I legally stayed 10 months on a 6 month multi-entry tourist visa in 2020.

The general rule is one day overstay is a freebe. Two days will get an inquiry as to why. 3 days will raise an eyebrow and a good reason will be required. A week overstay will crank up the machine. The penalties are clearly laid out on your countries Thai embassy website.
