Will Turkish Airlines accept a one-way ticket to Bangkok for applying for a retirement visa?

is cheaper to book a one way bus ticket out of thailand to malaysia or cambodia, from the closest border town to the closest border town. i was asked by my airline for return or onward ticket and just told them i'm planning to apply for extension and plan to take bus to malaysia when my visa expires and they were fine with that and the thai customs ok with that too. i never booked anything in advance.
