Hello, I have a dilemma : I'm French and I would like to apply for DTV visa, probably as freelancer (online teacher with Preply). I'm going to France for a month in June, then I will spend 4 days in Shanghai on my way back to Thailand (flying with China Eastern Airlines which stops anyway in Shanghai).

Can I still apply from France, or does that layover in China impacts the DTV ? I can't find a clear info.

Or do you recommend that I apply after, when my visa exemption runs out, from Vietnam for example ?

Thank you very much for your advices 🥹

Hey guys I’m currently in Thailand I am going to Vientiane to apply for my DTV. I have filled out all the documentation besides proof of location as I will have to show proof that I am out of Thailand using the Laos entry stamp.

I was wondering once I have entered Laos and I have submitted my application via E Visa website. How long will take roughly for the application to be processed as I currently sorting out accommodation.

Any information would be greatly appreciated

DTV Success - Hanoi - 5 Business days - German passport holder

I flew to Hanoi on 22 April after staying in Thailand for 90 days (extended tourist visa).

1. Applied for DTV (Freelancer / Digital Nomad) on 23 April at 1:12 am.

2. Status changed to "Pending Approval" on 24 April.

3. No additional docs requested.

4. Received visa on 29 April at 6:20 pm.

5. Entered Thailand through DKM airport on 1 May. Neither AirAsia employees at Hanoi aiport nor the DMK immigration officer asked me anything. The imm. officer only asked if I filled out the TDAC, and when I said "yes", he went ahead and gave me my 6 months visa after I showed him my printed out DTV.

Docs submitted (I used [members only] to merge my PDFs):

1. Docs indicating current location:

1.1 Airbnb confirmation (initially booked 4 nights & extended my stay later on)

1.2 Hotel booking Bangkok for 1 month that I immediately cancelled for free after receiving the hotel confirmation

1.3 Boarding Passes

1.4 Passport exit stamp Thailand

1.5 Passport entry stamp Vietnam

1.6 Google Maps screenshot indicating my location in Hanoi

1.7 Cute little selfie of myself in front of my Airbnb showing the street name and house number

2. Employment contracts

2.1 contract no. 1

2.2 contract no. 2

2.3 Cover letter explaining what I do (see attached screenshot)

2.4 2 Screenshots showing websites I have translated

2.5 3 Screenshots of my Malt, upwork and LinkedIn profile

3. Financial evidence

3.1 Screenshot of my German bank account indicating a sufficient amount on 22nd of April (in German, not translated to English)

3.2 Official bank statement of my German bank indicating a sufficient on my savings account on 4th of April (in German, not translated to English)

3.3 6 months of payslips of my other German bank account where I receive payments from my clients. I marked all client payments green (in German, not translated to English)

Additional notes:

- Print out your Thai DTV visa and show it to the Thai immigration officer.

- As you can see in the attached cover letter, I explained every document using red letters in the left corner so the embassy employees know straight away what each page is about.

- The authority in my German passport says "Botschaft Bangkok" which means "Embassy Bangkok". This is what I typed into the field "Issuing Authority", which has worked for me and another German passport holder who has the same authority in his passport and who also applied for the Freelancer DTV.

Let's say I apply for my DTV in Vietnam, and given there's an unknown timeline for approval, I leave Vietnam and go to another country for sightseeing until the approval comes through. Then fly to Thailand and enter on the DTV. What would be the risks? To me it seems there's only a requirement to apply from outside Thailand. Doesn't mean I can't go elsewhere after application. Sure, they could request an interview but I could get a flight and be there the following day. Has anyone done this?

I am going to apply for the Soft Power option - 6 month cooking course (There is also a 9 month course, do you think this one would be more acceptable?) I can transfer the 500k from my investment account in the next few days, so it will have been in my current account approx a month by the time I apply for the DTV. I can see Hanoi and Vientiane look like good options for getting it done quickly. Which one would you recommend I apply to with my circumstances? Thank you ka :)

Good afternoon everyone.

I am currently in the process of doing my DTV soft power through a muay thai gym.

I have been asked to explain how I will support myself in a covering letter.

I would greatly appreciate any opinions on wether the letter I have written is sufficient.

Many thanks 🙏

I’m currently in Hanoi preparing to apply for the DTV visa, but after reading a lot of recent experiences, I’m starting to feel a bit unsure. Last year, I entered Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa and later enrolled in a six-month Thai language course. With the proper visa extensions, I was able to stay for a full year—all completely by the book. I’ve never done any border runs or overstayed. I even took a short solo trip to Hong Kong to visit art exhibitions with friends during that time.

I’m now applying for the DTV as a freelance graphic designer, and I have all the required documentation ready—proof of income, an extensive portfolio, and everything else listed in the guidelines. At first, I thought my clean history and the fact that I followed all the rules would work in my favor. But some of the posts I’ve come across suggest otherwise, and now I’m wondering: could studying Thai in Bangkok actually hurt my chances instead of helping them?
