I am considering a DTV, but even though I'm a digital nomad seeking a visa to live and work remotely in the country (Workcation, they call it), I might just have to apply with soft power. Why is that? Because I have no employment contract as a freelancer, my type of work isn't well represented by a portfolio of examples and as I only stay 3 months in any single country (until the DTV anyway), I have no tax residence and so they might fallback on tax returns, which I cannot provide.
Isn't this really just the most convenient way, just sending a Thai cooking class letter or perhaps for a Thai language course?
Now, one of the reasons I would prefer the former option (Workcation) is because I like the visa's clarity in terms of working legally in the country within 180 days a year, even if no one would on tourist visas anyway. I'm not sure this is granted with soft power. Thanks.
Maybe a bit off topic but I obtained a Non O retirement visa last year and 2025 will be my first full 12 months as a resident of Thailand. I’m Australian and receive superannuation and other investment income, as well as rental income from my Australian property. My Australian bank is requesting I update my taxation and citizenship details by early July as required by the Australian Taxation Office. Of course I have a tax accountant in Australia but I’m sure other Australian members of this forum have already been down this path and grateful for any comments or advice.
After now stayed in Thailand 6 months Im going back to my home country.
I plan to return to Thailand in November, is there anything I need to do regarding my visa, or just bring it to show when I enter the border, just like I did this time?
Hi new to this I am planning to move to Thailand but going back to England a few times a year say 3 months in Thailand then 2 months back to England then back and forward like that. Could someone please let me know what visa I need to apply for that allows me to come and back and forth like that. I am retired and won’t be working in Thailand when I am there any advice much appreciated thanks.
Yeah, I know that the law requiring taxes for staying over 180 days has been in effect since last year. But honestly, I've never seen anyone around me actually paying taxes while staying here all year. Have you guys ever seen anyone who paid? 😂😂
So, do parents of international school students also have to pay taxes while living here? If that’s the case, who would even send their kids to school here? 🤣🤣
Is anyone able to tell me what type of taxes you pay after retirement? I believe it has to do with the amount of income? Are you paying alot or a moderate amount?
I'm from Singapore. There is a double tax treaty with my country. I've already paid my tax in singapore in March 2025. Do I have to inform anyone that I do not have to pay tax in Thailand.
I have a question about Tax with DTV but because it’s new then maybe we will not find the answer.
Some people are saying that the DTV visa is a tourist visa where you can stay 6 month in Thailand but because it’s a tourist visa it’s not made to pay tax in Thailand.
Others are saying that you can do a border run and stay more then 6 month in Thailand and then you can go to the tax office the year after and declare your the revenu that you bring into Thailand before the 1st of March to be Thai tax resident.
So my question is : If you are expat from your country, can you declare what you bring into Thailand and pay your tax on it in Thailand with a DTV visa ?
