Will my friend with an Ed visa need to leave Thailand immediately after it expires if he returns with a re-entry permit?

Hi everyone,

I have a quick question for a friend of mine. He has an Ed visa and is leaving the country on the 23rd of August and coming back on the 28th of August with a re-entry permit. The issue I'm confused about is that his visa expires on the 29th of August, the next day. Will he have to leave right away since his visa expires the next day or will he be given extra time(if so, how long?)?

I apologize. I hope this makes sense.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question concerns an individual with an Ed visa who will return to Thailand with a re-entry permit shortly before his visa expires. Forum members clarify that although the visa technically expires the day after his return, he may not need to leave immediately, as American citizens typically receive a 30-day visa exemption upon entry. However, the final decision lies with immigration officers, and there is some uncertainty regarding how strict enforcement may be on the expiration dates.

As an American, Nicholas Pepe's friend would receive a 30 days visa exempt entry into Thailand. No need for the reentry permit. As his Ed visa ends the next day...if I am correctly understanding.

he would not be the first who is just stamped in for 1 day using the re-entry permit.

That would be leniency of the immigration officer

Ok thank you so much. I think that is also the date of the "last day he can stay in Thailand".

The visa is used, means invalid and just a memory, tickets are booked so it must be okay. Not much I or others can add, for others please be aware to use the correct terminology, the valid until date of the visa has absolute nothing to do with how long you can stay inside Thailand.

If his re entry expires on 29th , he has to leave on 29th

He will have to leave on 29th

The valid until date on the visa does not set the day that you have to leave the country, you need to use the visa before that day.

he leaves the country with a re-entry permit. Now the question is what is the valid until date of this re-entry permit, what is the Admitted until date or the permitted up to ../../.. date stamped in his passport?

He's already used the Visa but it's coming to an end. lol I'll check with him on the date. He'll be back for sure before the re-entry expires as his ticket is already booked.
