My ED Visa expires Sept 30. If I don't extend and fly back to the US for the holidays (Oct - Dec), will I be able to return to Thailand in January 2022? Trying to decide if whether to stay or go. ๐Ÿค”

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is wondering if they can return to Thailand after their ED Visa expires on September 30 if they travel back to the US for the holidays. A commenter points out that once the visa expires, they may not be able to travel back unless they secure a new visa or extension before leaving.

If you have an ED visa/extension that expires Sept 30th how are you going to fly back to the US in Oct? When your extension runs out you either get a new extension or go back to where you came from

remember IF you're thinking to get a 60 day covid extension when this ED extension runs out you will have to cancel your current extension with documentation from the school you attend (and go to the immigration office that issued the extension you're on too)

Is it not possible to fly out of CNX? I'm guessing that if don't extend and I leave CM, then I may not be able to come back for long time.

These are your choices:

1 - get the school to give you paperwork to extend the ED extension you're on

2 - get the school to give you documentation to cancel the ED extension you're on and apply for a 60 day covid extension

OR

3 - leave the country before this extension runs out.

OK. I'll talk to the school first. I was wondering of there is a documentation process or fee to transfer from ED to COVID visa.

you can't transfer. You cancel one extension of stay then apply for the other extension of stay

If you're currently enrolled at the school and not going to continue your studies most will provide the documentation stating that you stop studying on the date your current extension expires <- you take that document to the immigration office, they cancel the current extension you're on, and then you can apply immediately for a 60 day covid extension.

There is no cost at the immigration office in cancelling the current ed visa extension you're on and the cost of applying for the 60 day covid extension is the same price as all extensions are in thialand 1900baht

OK, because I had to pay a transfer fee to convert my TR/COVID Visa to ED Visa.

@Kim *********
that was some under the table b/s fee the school cooked up that you had to pay immigrations to get the in country ED visa issued.

Talk to your school

Assuming there are flights out of CNX, you can fly out of CMX.

You can stay in Thailand up to the date of your current visa/ extension of stay. AFTER the extension of stay expires, you will either have to:

1. Get a new extension of stay for some reason (until September 27, they are selling 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19)

2. Leave Thailand and return on a valid visa/ visa exempt.

3. GO on overstay (NEVER, EVER GO ON OVERSTAY).
