Hi everyone. Posting for a friend. My friend has an ed visa. Will it be ok for her to go to a trip to another country and come back to thailand after a few weeks? Will there be a hassle in the airport immigration? šŸ˜ thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
A friend with an ED visa can travel abroad and return to Thailand, but they must obtain a re-entry permit from Immigration to avoid losing their visa. For trips up to 7 days, there are generally no issues. For trips up to 14 days, a valid reason must be provided, as holidays are not considered valid. If the absence exceeds 15 days, the visa may be at risk of cancellation. At re-entry, the immigration officers may ask questions regarding the trip and the student's status.

The Immigration in Samui requires a "school leave letter" to issue the re-entry permit.

On top of it the Immigration boss said that

- up to 7 days leave: no problem

- up to 14 days leave: the student must have (and prove) a "valid reason" (holidays are obviously not considered a valid reason)

- after 15 days the immigration can cancel the visa, no matter if you have the re-entry permit.

Unfortunately thereā€™s not much we can do.

They will give her a test in thai and ask her why she left during her study.

She needs re-entry permit (at Immigration, 1000 baht) otherwise she lose her visa

It's quite a hassle to get it at immigration beforehand; but you can buy it at the airport just before you get stamped out the country. Allow some extra time for this in case there's a long queue. Don't leave home without it!
