I have an education visa nearly finish in 6 march. I will leave Thailand and come back after 1 month. if I use the visa exemption scheme (I am from Hong Kong) to enter Thailand and travel. Will I have any problem with the immigration asking me why you come back Thailand so quick? Or should I better get the e visa online? Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is concerned about re-entering Thailand on a visa exemption scheme after leaving on an education visa. Comments suggest that as a Hong Kong citizen, they should be eligible for a visa-free 45-day entry, but they may need to provide proof of funds and a return flight ticket. Users also advise caution regarding potential fines if the education visa is not canceled before leaving. One commenter shared their experience of being questioned by immigration upon entry after holding an education visa.

I recently entered (via Suvarnabhumi) on a tourist visa after having spent last year on an ED Visa to learn Thai and was stopped and questioned by immigration in Thai language about if I actually went to classes and why I came back etc. She also thoroughly checked my documents (printed booking confirmation at hotel for my first few days after arrival and return flight ticket within 60 days)

Thanks so much for sharing. We are on ED Visa as well at the moment. Would you please let me know if there were additional questions she asked in Thai? Gotta start practicing, I have a really hard time understanding when they speak fast or understanding at all 🤪

Make if you're on an education extension and not the original visa, that you cancel it before leaving or you'll likely get a 20,000 baht fine in the future

how can someone cancel the education visa extension?

must get a letter from school that says the date you'll stop studying. Then take that letter to immigration about a week before that date and they'll cancel your extension and stamp you in until that date.

thanks very much for this. I didn't know about the risk of getting a 20.000 THB fine, but who is to give a fine? And for what reason he could get fined if I may ask. This guy is leaving the country just when his ED visa expires.

if they ever try to get a long term visa or extension in the future they'll be fined at that time. The fine is because they signed a document that says they would inform immigration when their status changes and stopping studying is a change of status. So they'll be fined for not doing what they said they would.

alright, and by going to immigration to inform them about the status change, at the same time that person get the ED extension cancelled within the passport. Am I understanding that right?

yes, but you need a letter from school for that. Can't just do it on your own

Should be no problem. As HK Citizen, you should receive a Visa Free 45 day Entry. However, remember that since you won't have a Visa, you may be asked to show 20,000 Baht and Flight Ticket out.
