What are the re-entry permit validity and return options for a non-immigrant ED Visa?

Hello, I am currently on the first 90day stamp of a 12month ED Visa. This stamp is set to expire on the 5th November, and it is my intention to apply for the next 90days at Chiang Mai Immigration office BUT for family reasons I now need to visit the UK in late November.

After this visit it is my intention to return to Thailand, as soon as this is made possible, with this visa. So, my first question is, how long do re-entry permits remain valid for ? AND assuming it remains impossible to return before the expiry of the second stamp of 90days, will I then have problems returning with this visa ? Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on the first 90-day extension of a 12-month ED Visa, expiring on November 5th. They plan to apply for a new 90-day extension at Chiang Mai Immigration before a trip to the UK in late November. They seek clarity on the validity of re-entry permits and whether returning after the second 90-day stamp expires will cause issues with their visa status.

Once you get your next 90 day extension you would also need to buy a re-entry permit. That will keep your extension "alive" so you could re-enter as long as it hasn't ran out.

BUT

The BIG problem is at that time they are not allowing people enrolled in private schools to request permission to enter thailand. In fact many real international university students on degreed programs are having problems getting back.

I'd think long and hard before you leave because you could be out of the country for many many months

Thailand Elite members , OA and OX visa holders are now allowed to apply for entry.

If you leave Thailand please be prepared to be away for one month or more to secure permission to reenter.

And your expenses to reenter are in the range from $3,000+

BTW...there is a serious question IF you can enter on an Ed Visa if its an informal language school.

From what I read...your request to enter is not likely to be approved...regardless if you have a reentry permit.

Good Luck...

Thank you Tod. If I decide to cancel this visa (to save paying the 1900baht fee and 1000baht re-entry fee) will I be able to take advantage of the visa amnesty to see me through to the 15th November ? Appreciated

you wouldn't cancel anything, you're on the 90 day initial stamp from the visa and you could just let it run out when it does on Nov 5.

You wouldn't get any amnesty seeing as that runs out on Oct 31st, so you'd have to go to the immigration office and see if you could apply for that new 60 day extension which they will start after this amnesty runs out.
