What happens to my visa if I leave Thailand before it expires and return before the expiry date?

Hi all.

Recently did my 60 day covid extension at MTT (they added the days to the end of my 30 day extension not to the date that I went to immigration if anyone is curious) so my current visa expiry date is 26 March. However something has come up and I need to head back to the U.K in the coming weeks for a few days. And would likely come back to Thailand again before the 26th of March.

Just curious how it would work regarding my visa situation. Would I be given a new 30 day visa exemption on arrival or what? Is it better that I wait till the 60 day covid extension runs out before returning? Wouldn’t want to land back in Thailand and told that I could only stay till the 26th of March or something.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a 60-day COVID extension that ends on March 26 and plans to temporarily leave Thailand for a few days. They are inquiring about the implications for their visa upon returning. Commenters clarify that upon leaving, the user will receive a new 30-day visa exemption on return and suggest obtaining a tourist visa for a longer stay or considering a re-entry permit for the COVID extension.

I suppose you could ask for a re entry permit for your "unable to travel due to COVID" extension.

Nigel Ponsonby Smallpiece. Yes you could! I'm sure there are people dumb enough to have tried that! 😆

You'll be stamped out of Thailand on the day you leave and get a 30 day stamp when you return.

If you want longer then apply for a tourist visa from the Thai Embassy and you'll be stamped in for 60 days upon your return.

Both can be extended for an additional 30 days.
