TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring about potential immigration issues for a friend returning to Thailand with only one day left on a retirement visa and a re-entry permit. The consensus among commenters indicates that as long as the re-entry permit is valid and correctly processed upon entry, he should not face any immigration problems. However, there are concerns about the timing and requirements for extending his retirement visa before it expires, as he will need to prepare documentation in a short time frame.

,

You already got possible answers based on the information you provided. It may or may not help your friend as there seems to be lack of concrete information. This is the reason why this group doesn't do "for a friend" posts usually.

Have your friend post on his own if he needs further or clear advice. Or you post further questions for him with photos of all related stamps on his passport, so that this group can provide legit advice.

Tell your "friend" to get back to Thailand ASAP or risk starting everything all over again. Kap

The documentation required to start over on a Non-O or get a new Extension of Stay are very similar so no real hardship, in fact, returing with just one day left causes hardship. It would be better, in my opinion, to enter on Visa Exempt after the current stamp has expired and start over as that gives you the time required to get the bank statements etc.

he needs to make sure he has a "valid" re-entry permit, as john mentioned, it's not standard or practical if there is a difference between validations of the existing extension and re-entry permit.

if those are valid for sure, he can enter Thailand even for one day, no problem.

They need to ensure they get the correct stamp upon entry by showing the IO the re-entry permit and checking the stamp when it's given.

He may get stamped in for 1 day or they may stamp him in 30 exempt and his retirement process starts from scratch

It would be unusual to have different dates for the re-entry permit and visa. Double check the dates. He can apply for an extension right up to the last valid date of his existing stamp but he'd need to be very sure he had all the necessary paperwork in order. He'll need bank statements, letter from his bank and so on

He must go to his local Thai Immigration office on May 8th.

Hopefully he can gather together the requirements for the one year extension of stay as retired by May 8th.

Frankly it's going to be a real challenge to get the bank account statements required to prove the account balances during the prior 12 months...

BUT he can try.

THESE are the common found requirements for the one year extension of stay as retired. Contact your local Thai Immigration office for their list of requirements.

Does one not have to apply for the extension of stay 1 month before the actual visa expires? Then get the “under consideration” inked in first, later pick up the new extension of stay shortly before the present visa expires

not with the One year extension of stay as retired. He is already on a one year extension. This is the renewal of the extension for one ADDED year.

But no problem getting back into Thailand. ??

@Graeme **********
not a problem. He has a current re-entry permit and his one year extension of stay expires May 8th, the day after he arrives on May 7th.

If he is unable to gather the documents required to get the one year extension of stay as retired on May 8th, still go to the Thai Immigration office when he has them ASAP and hopefully they will approve the one year extension of stay as retired but charge him an OVERSTAY fine of 500 Thai baht per Day late FROM May 9th.
