TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired if they would receive an additional year on their Thai visa when re-entering Thailand on October 21, 2018, despite their visa expiring on September 13, 2018. Community responses clarified that the user must enter Thailand before the visa's expiry date to obtain a new one-year stamp. If they enter after the expiry, they would only be eligible for a 30-day visa upon arrival. To maintain their current status, they need a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand previously, or they would need to apply for an extension at the immigration office. Additionally, regular check-ins every 90 days are necessary.

The way that visa works is:

It's good for unlimited entries for the validity of the visa (one year from the date it's issued). Each entry gets you stamped in for a whole year. SO if you enter the country just prior to the "enter before" date on the visa you'd get stamped in for a whole new calendar year (in essence getting TWO years of stay out of a visa valid for only one year).

These are the requirements for the O-A visa from the thai consulate in Los Angeles.

You are confusing the requirements at the immigration office INSIDE of thailand to get an extension with the requirements at a a thai consulate in your home country OUTSIDE of thailand to get a year-long multi-entry Non-O-A visa

Steven Trujillo for your proof of income for the Consulate ? Is a notarized copy of annual Social Security income report and a company pension plan report WE use when filing our US Federal Income Tax returns acceptable.. OK? Of course must be = to 65,000 Thai baht monthly...800,000 annually if using income only not funds in Thailand bank account.

That's a winner twice!

May I ask who did you get your required police record clearance from? Local police department or the FBI? How long did it take to get it? Thank you.

Steven...you may wish to make a copy of the visa and black out your ID info... passport# shown on two places on the visa. Then repost here.

Since you are departing after the enter before date you will need to purchase a reentry permit prior to leaving Thailand if you wish to renter on this visa. You would need to depart and return prior to that enter before date in order to get an additional year. Your current visa will end on 16 December 2018. With your current travel plans you will not get any additional time on this visa.

555 He made you work for it Todd. ;) Thanks for all the help.

@Steven *********
if you plan on arriving each October and departing each April you will need to watch the dates or you could find yourself short on one end. Doing a border run just before you leave in April will get you that extra year, provided you purchase that reentry permit. It could also affect your return date options. I take, what is for me is the easier, albeit a bit more expensive route - I get a new non imm o-a multi entry visa every year which means no worries about extensions, and no dealings with local immigration etc except for the 24 hour and 90 day reporting requirements.

5555 ffs

@Steven *********
correct, IF you enter BEFORE the enter before date on that visa you hold now you get stamped in for a whole year.

And if you're going to leave during that year you'd need a re-entry permit BEFORE you left to get stamped back in on that stamp when you returned.

So to get a free year in enter Thailand be fore September 13 and get a permit before I leave in April
Tod *********
@Ste***
ahhh SORRY I missed the part that you're NOT in thailand now. :O :/

Yep, if you don't enter the country on or before the 13th of Sept that visa will be expired.

And if you didn't buy a re-entry permit BEFORE you left this last time you're stamp until Dec canceled when you stamped out.

I'd say IF you're in your country get a new Non-O-A visa before you wing your way here. If not come in on a 30 day visa exempt entry, convert that to a 90 day Non-O visa then to a yearly extension.

if you purchase a reentry permit prior to departing Thailand you can stay until your extension expires in December.

@Tod ********
so it looks like when I enter I October I will just have 30 days visa

@Al ******
<- what he said :)
Tod *********
@Steven *********
NO it won't :/ I'll try it one more time. You need to border bounce BEFORE the 13th of Sept 2018 <- That is the "enter before" date on your VISA.

You are confusing the "entry stamp" you got in your passport that is valid until 16 Dec 2018 with the validity of the VISA which is the 13th of Sept 2018
Al *******
@Steven *********
no, it will not. That trip must be done before the September enter before date.

@Tod ********
so a trip to Cambodia in November and back to Thailand will give me other year interesting

@Al ******
have form ca I get that on arrival at Bkk
Tod *********
@Steven *********
which begs the question, seeing as you can get a FREE year more of stay out of the visa in your passport now by simply going to the border, stamping out of thailand, in&out of another country and back into thailand WHY would you waste the time jumping thru the hoops it takes to get a yearly extension at the immigration office? Border bounce before the 13th of Sept and get stamped in for another year.

Next year you can worry about your yearly extension of stay at the immigration office.
Steven **********

Make an appointment at US embassy Bangkok get a sworn income statement pay 2000 baht to Thai immigration before dec 18
Tod *********
@Al ******
They wouldn't be on any extension, they have a current admitted until stamp that lets them stay until Dec 16th, and if they don't do anything their visa expires on the 13 of Sept and they'd either leave the country to go get a new visa or file for an extension of stay at the immigraiton office.
Tod *********
@Steven *********
, Okay, I see what you're saying, You have a current "admitted until" stamp that lets you stay until Dec 16, 2018. And if you don't exit/re-enter the country by the 13th of Sept (when your VISA expires) that's the stamp you're on and you'd apply for a yearly extension of stay at the immigration office by meeting the financail requirements and providing the required documentation>

BUT

IF you just go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in and out of another country and stamp into Thailand BEFORE the 13th of Sept 2018, you'd be stamped into the country for a year from that date

Meaning you wouldn't need to apply for a yearly extension at the immigration office for another year.
Al *******
@Steven *********
after your enter before date, assuming that you left the country, as you did, and got an additional year, your non imm o-a visa is dead and done. From that point you are on an extension of stay until December 2018, assuming you purchase a reentry permit.
Steven **********

Chang mai stamp till dec 2018

@Steven *********
Dec? what do you mean?

@Tod ********
so before dec 18 2018 what needs to be done
Tod *********
@Steven *********
in order to get stamped in for another year you need to enter the country BEFORE 13 Sept 2018 <- that's the "enter before" date on the visa.
Al *******
I do the same as you each year and I get a new non imm o-a multi entry visa via the LA Thai Consulate each time. Others will probably provide additional suggestions.
Al *******
Steven Trujillo nope, not if you enter on your current visa.
