Can I apply for an extension of my education visa in Thailand before the 90-day period ends?

Hello, I'd be travelling in with my education visa for the first time. I was advised that after 90 days, I'd have to apply for an extension and also to request for multi entry, since I'm only granted single entry at the start.

Unfortunately, after coming in with the duration visa, I have to leave 2 weeks later for 2 months for business and holidays. If I apply right after I enter, would it be possible to get it without waiting for the full 90 days to be over?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on whether they can apply for an extension on their education visa upon entry into Thailand, despite having upcoming travel plans that will take them out of the country for two months shortly after they arrive. Community responses advise against leaving Thailand with an education visa, emphasizing the importance of maintaining attendance and engagement in studies. They clarify that extensions typically can only be processed in the last 30 days of the initial 90-day entry stamp. It is suggested that the user should reconsider their travel plans or enter Thailand on a different visa if they intend to leave soon.

Okay thanks so much guys! So I guess I should enter exemption first then validate my ed visa when I come back again? Even if my ed visa is issued earlier than when I enter, is this going to be a problem?

if you have an ED VISA sticker in your passport or a PDF from an eVisa you can't decide to enter on anything other than that visa ๐Ÿ™ The immigration office can void the visa if you want to come in visa exempt if they want to OR make you stamp in on it OR they can decide to let you in visa exempt. You won't know what they will do until you show up at passport control

okay you say you'll be "๐—ฏ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐˜„๐—ถ๐˜๐—ต ๐—บ๐˜† ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฎ" so that makes me think you're getting it at a thai consulate before you come here.. Is that correct?

When you enter you will get stamped in for 90 days. You say you're staying two weeks, then leaving for two months?

You aren't gonna get ANY extension, because you can't get an extension until you have 30 days or less left on your 90 day entry stamp and you're only gonna be here 2 weeks before you leave ๐Ÿ˜•

You CAN buy a single re-entry permit <- meaning you can leave/come back ONE time during that 90 day stamp.

So you're going to be here 2 weeks, you're leaving for two months and that means when you come back to thailand you'll get stamped in for 2 weeks <- the same expiration date as your 90 day entry stamp.

THEN you can take documentation from the school to the immigration office and get an extension

You sure need to be talking to your school about this before you get that ED visa..

Honestly you should push back the ED visa until you're done with this 2 month travel plan THEN get it and come into thailand on it getting the 90 days.

any way you slice it that is a very poor choice for visa/travel ๐Ÿ™ I mean I don't know how else to say it. You run a super high risk of denial of entry comin' back in, and you will only get stamped in for the 2 weeks left on that original 90 day entry when you come back so you'll have to get the documentation from the school and get over to the immigration office to get the extension <- and that's IF they'll give you an extension after you've been out of the country 2 of the 3 months you get stamped in on the ED visa ๐Ÿ™

Hello, i just got Denied to Entry in BKK.

i was in Thailand, on a Non-Imm ED Visa with a lot of Covid stamps almost 2,5 years. on the 25.3.22 i fly to Cambodia, i apply for a new Tourist e-Visa , and made Thai Pass and everything. I had a Paper from my School, that proves, i came back on Tourist, just for can change to my new ED-Visa inside of Thailand to learn Thai. However they did not let me Enter, because they said i stay in Thailand for too long. And put me in the Airport Prison for 2 days, and today i had to fly back to Cambodia. What i can do now, to come back to Thailand. Any Suggestions ? TIA

DO NOT LEAVE THAILAND when you have an Ed Visa in your passport.

You will be questioned by Thai Immigration Officers upon your effort to reenter Thailand .. even with a Re-entry permit.

You are expected to attend all classes and pass tests...your attendance is certified to The Education Ministry and Thai Immigration by your school.

There's no excuse for leaving Thailand during the entire course of study.

Thai Immigration Officers are watching for those who have the Ed Visa and try to leave Thailand during the course of study.

You will be on their RADAR... Don't put yourself at risk... Attend classes and pass tests.

I really don't think it is even worth you going to immigration to ask for a favour, because how on earth can you be a student if you are leaving the country for 2 months right after "starting your course".

You can generally only apply for the extension in the last 30 days of your 90 day permission to stay.
