Hello, I have some family visiting soon and they will be entering on a 30d visa exemption stamp. Since they are going to be staying > 30 days they will need to do an extension of stay in country. Does the extension stamp add on to the end of current stamp?

For example, if they land September 1st with a 30 day stamp and then get an extension on September 2nd, will they have a stay until end of October?

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand with a 30-day visa exemption stamp, the extension of stay will be added to the end of the current stamp. For example, if your family arrives on September 1st and extends their visa on September 2nd, they will indeed have until the end of October to stay in the country. However, it is essential to apply for the extension before the initial 30 days expires on September 30th. Additionally, airlines may require proof of onward travel within the 30-day period, so it is advisable to check this before departure.

Many airlines won’t allow boarding if you don’t show a ticket leaving Thailand within the 30 days visa exempt time.

Make sure you check the exit date stamp in the passport because September 1st would be "day one" so the 30 days will expire on 30 September and you need to apply for the extension before the 30 days expires. I did my extension when I had a week to go till the expiry.

Not all will allow you to apply for the extension so early and when you enter, airlines may still want to see onward flight within the first 30 days.

The 30 day extension of stay is ADDED to the current stamped in ending date received on arrival into Thailand.

These are the common found requirements for the 30 days extension of stay at your local Thai immigration office. 1900 Thai baht. Be sure to have a TM30 address registration on file with Thai Immigration.
