Can I extend my multi-entry Non-O visa in Thailand for additional stay options?

(I'm an idiot for not remembering!)...US passport, multi entry non O visa, married to Thai National, visa expires mid August, last stamp in expired end of May... (I

believe) a few yrs ago I waited til the end of my visa, got my "extra" 90 days stamp then, at the end of those 90 days, I was able to pay XXXX baht for a 60(?) day extension AND THEN there was an option to pay x amount of baht for 30(?) days more... sorry for the long story but am I wishfully fabricating this story or is/was this an option?

Thanks very much for any insight and prayers for better days ahead for everyone!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification regarding the possibility of extending their multi-entry Non-O visa, married to a Thai national, with mention of previous experiences of obtaining extra extensions. Several commenters provide insight, suggesting that while it's possible to extend the stay before the visa expiration by re-entering Thailand for a new 90-day stamp, the user cannot obtain an additional 30-day extension from the immigration office on a Non-O visa.

let's try to sort out what you're talking about

On a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa <- the kind you bounce out and in on every 90 days people routinely get 15 months out of it :O And none of that was an "extra" 90 days. You simply bounce out and in one last time before the VISA expires and you get another 90 day entry (taking you to 15 months of stay on a visa that lasts a year) AND then you can apply at the immigration office to extend that last entry by 60 more days under the visit family clause for 1900baht taking you to 17 months of stay in thailand on a visa that was valid for a year.

You are NOT able to pay and get another 30 days though, you can't get a 30 day extension from an immigration office on a Non-O visa/entry.

! (Samut Prakan) office will see us shortly. I will update this thread after and hopefully it will be helpful for others in a similar situation.

exact same scenario.

Also at Samut Prakarn.

Would greatly appreciate the update.

If (and only IF) we got the 60 day extension (regardless whether backdated or issues on the date applied for):

Does that prevent u from getting another extension at the end of the 15 months?

I know normally id make no sense to extend each entry... as one can bounce and get 90

But in this situation (hipotethically) could one get more than one 60 day extension during those 17 months? (Lets say u rather pay 1900 than bounce for whatever reason)

...as per the first line of this post, I'm an idiot for not remembering the extension option sooner! I only used it once about 5 yrs ago.

nope, not an idiot, AND I have only heard of one immigration office back dating an extension to the expiration of the original entry stamp (Samut Prakan) BUT I have seen no proof of this.

Most other offices will date the extension on the date you apply OR that's what people are being told. In fact one person whose extension was expiring and was wanting to get a new year marriage extension but didn't have the funds in the bank long enough was told to take the amnesty until he hit the 2 months seasoning and THEN come in and apply for the year. :O

I'd say go talk to your office and see what they say.

any updates on this scenario? (From any office)

AKA: People with multi-entry (marriage) Non-O on amnesty

Any way to get off the amnesty onto a 60 day family extension (whether backdated or not)? (Yes... shouldve/couldve... but didnt at the time)

Apparently being on actual (visa+extension) days would give us some options?

Whereas being on amnesty we have no options (it seems)
@Jamie ********
did u manage to ask any of this at Samut Prakarn?

Thanks for that. We actually did go before the stamp expired but just for general info. Didn't inquire about the extension & of course no suggestions about it were given. I've heard at our local office, extensions are given but backdated to your last day on your stamp.... That would get me to the end of July! 😅

Exactly right sir, but at this time, my stamp is expired and I can't trust that I'll be able to bounce out and in. My question is will i be able to get that 60 day extension? I've heard conflicting info of course so I/we plan to go to immigration & find out directly.

@Jamie ********
At least in theory, when your current stamp runs out you would go on amnesty (until no longer than the 31st of July) and then just before that expires you could apply for the 60 day extension and get it.

BUT some offices are saying you can't get any extensions once you go on amnesty and some are saying you can. So it's pretty much up to your immigration office.

It sure would have been better to GO to the immigration office before your current stamp expired and ask about it rather than after the fact once you're already on amnesty but you burned that bridge already.

At the very worst you'll be able to stay until amnesty runs out and then follow what ever the government tells amnesty holders to do once that happens.
Tod *********
Right now you're evidently on a 90 day entry stamp from that visa and if/when it runs out you will automatically go on the amnesty (which is no stamp) until July 31st,

Once they manage to get the country open again to let people out and back in IF your Non-O visa is still valid you could bounce out and back to get a new 90 day entry stamp like normal

Don't you want a one-year extension of stay on the visa? That's much easier than looking for short-term gimmicks, and then starting over (I assume) with a new visa application.

Right.

Well, you'd better tend to that if you want to stay, right?
