Can I apply for a new Non-O retirement visa from the UK after my current visa expires?

Good morning all. Trying to get some confirmation that I'm ok with the following.

I currently have a 90day non O retirement visa which i obtained in Laos.

It expires on September 2.

I have the Thai bank account and the phone requirement.

I was intending to extend for twelve Months. However I now have to return to UK for approx 4 to 6 months.

I now plan to leave Thailand on or just before current visa expires.

I will retain Thai bank account and phone.

I then intend to apply for another non o 90 day retirement visa in the UK from the Thai embassy in London on the e visa system when I come back to Thailand in four to six months.

Does anyone know if this would be likely to be refused or know if doing two non o 90 day retirement visas is a problem or is it it safer to extend before I leave which of course is a bit of a waste of the one year extension as would leave just after it starts.

I know if I extend before I leave I have to get re entry stamp before I go .

Hope I made that clear lol.

Many thanks for any comments

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user currently holds a 90-day Non-O retirement visa, which is due to expire on September 2. They plan to return to the UK for 4-6 months and want to know if applying for another 90-day Non-O retirement visa from the Thai embassy in London would be feasible upon their return to Thailand. Comments suggest that getting a second Non-O visa is likely acceptable, though concerns about the 'under consideration' process and potential complications are raised. It is suggested that the user consider obtaining a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand to help maintain their current status. The overall consensus is that while there are varying opinions, the user should be able to return to Thailand with a new visa.

All things considered...I'm still confused lol but think I will get a new 90day non o.

I have a. Bank account so as soon as I get back I can find it with the 800k, source suitable medical insurance and do a year extension.

My real worry was I would have problem getting the 90 day non o on UK if I want to return in four months and seems most think I would be ok with that.

Thank you all for your comments

There is no insurance requirement, though having insurance is always a good idea.

oh ok...I thought medical insurance needed for the non o year extension. To be honest I want medical cover anyway.

Sounds like a reasonable plan!

1.) Get another Non–O E–Visa (Retirement over 50 years) from the Thai Embassy in London

2.) Do you already have the 800,000.- Thai Baht already in your Thai Bank Account??

if not, then have 800k Baht in your Thai Bank Account, so that on your next Entry months from now into Thailand on that new Non–O E–Visa you got from London, you can go to your local Thai Immigration Office to apply for an Extension of Stay with the 800k already 'seasoned' over 2 months while while you are away, outside of Thailand

3.) wanted to ask other Group Members: what are the Pro's + Con's of going from a Non–O E–Visa to Retirement Extension of Stay vs.

making Entry on free Visa Exempt, converting to Non–O in-country, then to Retirement Extension ???

Seems like there are many conflicting and confusing opinions here.. he tells us he has a 90-day non-o already which expires 2 Sep 25.. and he's intending to exit the country just before said expiry date.. and whilst at first it would appear to be sensible to apply for the 12-month extension of stay before leaving Thailand.. then bolt on a re-entry permit so it is valid when he returns in 4-6 month's time.. this strategy wont work unfortunately.. because there is the small matter of the 'under consideration' period.. if the 12-month extension is granted it will run from 2 Sep 25 when the current 'visa' expires.. they will stamp the passport 'under consideration' and he will then need to return 1-month later to get it inked into his passport proper.. that date will be 2 October 25.. which is after he has flown back to the Uk.. so that plan is not feasible for him.. the only option will be to apply for another non-o visa when he's back in the UK and begin the process to get the 12-month extension when he returns to Thailand.. which should not be a problem.

doesn't the under consideration period only apply to non-o's based on marriage or other things that might require authentication? Wansn't aware that applied to based on retirement...

This is one of the issues I find constantly happens is that it seems to be office to office or even officer to officer that interpret Thai laws about visas differently...makes it so hard to understand as different people clearly get slightly different scenarios so neither are right and neither are wrong 😂

...thank you so much...I hadn't even consider the under consideration issues so just leaving and start again from UK as per my original idea sounds best.

Many thanks

a new extension is not granted on the day the previous stamp expires if, for example , it is applied for 30 or 45 days before expiry, it is applied to the existing stamp date and can be inked in as soon as the 2 or 3 week under consideration is completed (if there is an under consideration period)

thank you for your input..it's amazing how many comments bring up other issues which is why I love this group (most of the time)

Not in CM.. i applied early thinking I'd get my extension inked in early as a consequence.. but the extension was dated for the exact date my 90-day non-o was due to expire.. and the under consideration period took it forward exactly 1-month after that date.. i was told by immigration that if i had applied for it 1-week earlier or 1-week later these dates would not have changed.. the only real benefit of getting the paperwork filed early is to get any wrinkles ironed out in good time.. surely it's called an extension of stay because you are extending the date (or deadline) you already have.. it's not a new application with dates that run from your date of application.. which would be the case with a preliminary 90-day non-o application filed in country!

I would check with the embassy

Easier I'd say for you to get the 12 month extension plus re-entry permit rather than apply for a New Non-O. One thing to consider is when do you prefer your 12 months extension to occur, the same month each year that your current Non-O expires or the month that your new Non-O will expire when you return?

this is an excellent consideration

Get a re entry permit so you dont ne to reapply, non o will continue when you return

Drivel.

A reentry permit does not extend the visa.

@Ruud *****************
Yes, with a Non-O visa, you can depart and re-enter Thailand, but you'll need a re-entry permit to avoid invalidating your visa. If you leave without a re-entry permit, your Non-O visa will be canceled
Greg ***********
@Lee ************
Correct terminology is important! . . . . . People buy a re-entry permit for a current STAY PERMIT, not for a visa. The visa will expire when you enter Thailand. After your entry, you are in Thailand on a stay permit. For this stay permit you can buy a re-entry permit. It keeps the stay permit alive, should you exit Thailand. However, a re-entry permit is only valid for the duration of the stay permit it was bought for. So if he buys a re-entry permit for his 90-days stay permit, it will expire together with the 90-days stay permit on September 2. He will be out of the country by then anyways, and so, he needs a NEW 90-days visa

@Lee ************
A non O visa is valid for 90 days on entry. The OP will be away for 4-6 months. A re-entry permit isn’t going to help. They need a new visa.
Brandon ************
Should be fine. While there's no official limit to how many non-O visas you can get, the embassies would probably start to question it after a few. But a second one shouldn't be any issue at all.

thank you very much I just want to do whatever I have to to make sure I get back lol. I think my plan is ok but some reassurance is always good.

I contacted the London embassy about this exact question as I travel 3 times a year for 2 months each to thailand so not there long enough to get the extension. The London office said that there is no limit as long as you meet the criteria

it's the best option really. Trying to convert in Thailand requires a lot of trips to immigration and a lot of paperwork. Filing for an evisa is infinitely better
