hi everybody,

I got a non OA retirement visa in April 2022 in my home city and last year, 2023, before the visa expired , I flew out of Thailand and returned in March with a one year insurance which enabled me to get a stamp for another year of extension at the airport. My visa will expire in March 2024 but there is an important trip I gotta take in February 2024. if I buy a one year insurance, will I be able to get an another year of extension at the bkk airport on my way back here in February?

Could anyone share your experience or give me some advice ?

thank you for your reply and happy new year.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether they can obtain another year of extension on their Non-OA retirement visa when re-entering Thailand in February 2024 after taking a trip. They have the necessary insurance but are unsure if it suffices to extend their stay. Various commenters provided insights on visa rules and regulations, explaining that while the user can return with the proper insurance, extensions must be handled at an immigration office and cannot be granted simply at the airport.

This post is about entry after the second year from Non-OA. If OP wants to talk about the steps AFTER his "second-year" finishes, please make a new post.

Thank you for your advice.

Another option is to not get a re-entry permit so your current stay stamp will be voided when you leave. Then apply for a new OA in your home country which will give you another two year tenure without having to transfer money. You will still require the insurance

Have you considered converting to an “O” visa from the “O-A”? Sure, you need funds on deposit but if you plan to spend a long time in Thailand it may be better for you than paying for “less than good” insurance. Just a thought!

Or, if you are going back to your home country you can exit Thailand without a reentry permit which would cancel your current permission to stay and reapply for a new OA in your home country and start over again without needing to move funds needed for an extension to Thailand for the next couple years.

No. Your multiple entry Non-OA visa has already expired. You only have your entry stamp.

If you want to be back in Thailand on the same stamp until March 2024 (so that you can apply for a 1-year extension from the Non-OA entry stamp), you get a re-entry permit BEFORE you leave.

If you are eligible for visa-exempt (or waiver) entry and want to get a new Non-OA or other soon, just leave without anything and back to Thailand visa-free for 30 days, then seek your next step.

when you are back in Feb 2024, your entry stamp of permitted length of stay will be exactly the expiry date of your existing extension. But with your new one year insurance and if you satisfy the other requirements (eg bank deposits}, you can go to the immigration office to apply for another year of extension before the existing one expires.

In short, you won’t get another year extension at the airport but have to apply at the immigration office.

, you cannot get any stamp longer than March 2024 with or without insurance, re-entry permit or whatever, on your expired Non-OA visa and current valid stamp from that visa.

Re-entry permit wouldn't give you any additional day even one day to your validity. it just keeps your entry stamp valid until the date on that stamp.

, You didn't get "stamp of extension" when you entered in March 2023. It is just an entry stamp. Unless you apply for an extension officially at the local immigration office (NOT at the passport control of entry point/ airport by entering Thailand), you cannot be stamped for any longer than what you have now.

@Paul *****
no, the last stamp is the longest validity date of your initial visa (you are on you initial non O-A visa) and not on an extension.

You have to come back with your re-entry stamp before expiring date in March and do the 1 year extension here with the requirements asked.

@Paul *****
you’ll need to show 800 k in a Thai bank or 12 months of foreign transfer s of 65k baht to extend in Thailand plus the insurance I would advise let the O-A expire and apply for a non-o when you return

sorry, I don't really get what you mean. I got a stamp of extension for another year from March 2023 which expires in March 2024 at bkk Airport. I bought a reentry visa which also expires in March 2024 too.

if I leave Thailand in February 2024 and will be back in February with a one year health insurance, will I be able to get a stamp for another year of extension from February 2024 to Feb 2025? sorry about my understanding and thanks for your reply.
