TLDR : Answer Summary
The general consensus among commenters is that if your tourist visa expires on a weekend (November 19, in this case), and you visit the immigration office on the following weekday (November 20), you should not be charged the 500 baht overstay fee. Many users affirm that immigration usually waives the fine as it recognizes the visa's expiration falls on a non-working day. However, it's advised to go early if possible to avoid any potential issues and to ensure you have all required documents ready.

The earliest you can go is 5 days before visa expires, I always go early when extending, especially handy if they are busy or change the rules at the last minute.

@To**
, *scratching head*. I have no idea what you're trying to say. Different offices interpret the rules and enforce them differently. Actually it isn't even necessarily the office, quite often it's the individual in the office you're dealing with. It's normal to be told different things by different officials. You just have to go with the flow as they like to do things slightly different from time to time. Read all the posts on the TM.30 as an example.

different rules does that mean some take money some don't.

I've been to a few immigration offices around Thailand and there all have CCTV By the way CCTV Is not a visa.
Brad *********
Marco, different Immigration Offices have different rules. So you may be correct. This has been my experience with Chonburi Immigration in the past.

This year I won't have an update as I have an METV, so I'll be doing some travelling every 60 days.

@Br**
, I think you are wrong.

Almost all Immigration offices (including Bangkok and Chiang Mai, for example) allow you to file an extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current admitted until stamp.

That means IF you fly in on a 30 day visa exempt stamp you can go right to the immigration office and apply for an extension. (Quoting Tod Daniels)

Yes, I should have been more specific as the rules are different for different visa types. For a 30 day visa exempt or a SETV, the 30 day extension can only be applied for 5 days before the permitted to stay date stamped in the passport on entry.
Marco *********
He talks about 60 day visa.

It can be extended any time, also after 1 day you arrive in Thailand.

Don't get confused with report on extension of stay, that can be done 14 days before till 7 days after the expiring date
Robert *******
45 days or 30 days to apply for Extension of Stay, depending on Immigration.

Tod Daniels and Robert Lagas are the people to listen too. Others mostly are full of incorrect information. Why they comment is beyond my understanding. Go in advance!

Possibly true!

They've nothing to do.

I've always gone a day early for a border run.

And leave a day early.

NO. if the day for checking is a saturday or sunday, then you come the first weekday. So NO oversty charges. Just look at the immigration pages. And all these people who say that of course you do. They do not know anything about Thai Immigration. Simple.
Søren ********
@Daithi ****
I am not drying. You are just a DRYING GAME. So stop your arguments that don't work for anybody. Not even you. Complain to your local Immigration instead of here.
Søren ********
@Daithi ****
And you not understand what i say to you. When Immigration is closed for Weekend or Holidays, you have to report the next weekday. This is in ordinary English, so you should understand. You think that Thai Immigration are putting it up in print, just to get overstays out of foreigners.. That is what you are suggesting here. You don't believe a word of what Immigration put in writing. And you will not NOT get an overstay for coming on Monday. NOT. And now, complain about your findings to Thai Immigration, and find out what they will cll you. Not here anymore. Tired of you now. But wait a few hours, then my neighbour come home from Immigration where he works. Thai Officer at Immigration. Who i got my information from. So complain to Immigration wherever you are in Thailand. Not here.
Søren ********
@Daithi ****
You think, that Thai Immigration Office have their rule saying, If the office is closed because of weekend or Holidays, you have to come the following weekday. You think that is for fun they have that rule, and it is printed en every Immigration Office.
Søren ********
@Daithi ****
NOT true. I have been making visa for all my friends for the last 10 years. So you not think that i know it. And who did you ask. My friends come on monday, if it finish on saturday or sunday, and not one of them have got an overstay. Good friday.
Marco *********
No!!!!

You could be stamped 1 day overstay but not fined 500 baht because Immigration is closed on sunday.

But better to go today.

Fill the form and bring 1,900 baht, one photo, copy of passport (frontpage, last stamp, departure card)
Davey *******
Your information is wrong he will be fined 1 day overstay
Nimo *****
Of course yes! That’s an overstay
Steve *******
Daithi Doo. Incorrect. You wont be fined and you wont get an over stay stamp.
Davey *******
It's an overstay u will be fine d
Adrien ******
Yes. It's technically an Overstay. However, in the majority they do nothing about it as it's not a working day for the Immigration Centres. Most of them will not even stamp your passport either.
David ************
@Adrien *****
You originally agreed it was an overstay if expiration fell on a Sunday
Marco *********
Im pretty sure that no Immigration office charges overstay fine in this specific case. But the passport is stamped 1 day overstay, that is always better to avoid, that's why the best advice is to extend the visa today.
Adrien ******
@Marco ********
. It is true. If the date expires over the weekend you can on the next available working day and will not be charged. The issue you have is this could be dependent on the local rules of the specific immigration centre. But generally speaking you are not charged
Marco *********
Why you say that? It's not true.

Even if expiration is on a Sunday
Andrew ******
500 baht a day for overstaying
Robert *******
You also can go today, it is an Extension on top of the last day. By going earlier you would not lose any days. And Yes, if immigration is closed due to weekends or holiday and you apply the first working day after there is no overstay fine or stamp.
