TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring whether they can visit the immigration office for a visa extension on Monday, March 12, after their tourist visa expires on Sunday, March 11. Community members advise that it is generally safe to go the next day (if the office is closed on the expiration date), and they discuss the risks of overstaying and the potential fines associated with it. Several comments suggest going earlier to avoid issues with overstaying.

Seems like we can extend 30 days, how many time can we do that before we have to leave the country. I ask since i plan to travel from place to place in Thailand ( maybe 30 days at each town )... thanks.

you can extend EACH 30 day visa exempt entry by 30 days once.

Prevention is better than cure... why don’t you go early..... I saw last month many they didn’t got as immigration officer considered as over stay and advised to go out of Thailand on that same day.. go these week before your date expires

Thanks Tod !

As a rule there is no problem being on an overstay, going to the immigration office clearing the overstay fine, and immediately applying for your extension, although you do lose the overstay days off the extension time.

Tod Daniels If he goes a day or two late, they will give him his 30 day extension. What would happen if he left the country a day or two late?

Would they just give a fine and no overstay stamp? My friend is in the same position as Salvatore but unable to get to CW.
Tod *********
@Jim ****
the stamp is the same. At this time having an overstay stamp in your passport does not count against you getting a visa from a thai consulate, getting an extension at the immigration office or stamping into the country.
Jaime *********
Thanks. Is there a difference between an overstay stamp for two days and an overstay stamp for two months?

Would a two day overstay cause a ban on entering Thailand?
Tod *********
The only time you're exempted from overstay fines is if the immigration office is closed on the day your stamp expires.

Otherwise you pay the overstay fine, and you can get your extension but it's dated from the original expiration date.

If you're leaving the country after your stamp expires, they waive the first day overstay fine IF you're flying out within 24 hours of your stamp expiring, BUT if you exit two days after you pay the 1000baht (500 per day). You get an overstay stamp all the time.

@Salvatore ******
, there is no reason to wait until the day it expires to get an extension because they ADD the 30 days onto your current expiration date.

Go this week,

As people pointed out IF the immigration office is closed (weekends or holidays) the day your stamp expires and you go the very next day they're open you do not get fined for overstay and you get your extension like normal
Stan **********
Why leave it to the last minute , you are allowed to do this before the expiry date .
Peter ***********
I thought you can only get one week extension.
Michael ********
only certain countries are limited to 7 days.
Michael ********
Yes you can. No problem, but as mentioned....you are extending and should go much earlier.
Oscar ******************
That's not a tourist visa, is a 30 days exemption visa stamp, you can extend now 30 days more, don't need to wait until 11th.
Shiva *******
Yes. U can. No penalty
Pongsrirojana **********
Why wait?
Steve *******
No problem. You can go the day after if the immigration office is closed the day your stamp expires without any penalties. You can also go before it expires, ie friday without losing any days. The extention is added to your admitted until date.
Ellie *******
Why don't you go in advance, during this week? You still have three weekdays... You wouldn't lose any day of your extension...
Christine ***********
Same with me except it expired on a holiday. Just got a stamp that said it was 1 day overstay because they were closed on the day ot expired. Got no fine but you never know
Dorji *********
If you go on 12th, you might get a overstay stamp and might have to pay 500 baht fine. I suggest you to go on 9th Friday. You won't lose any days, meaning you will get until 10th April.

My guess is it is an overstay & will incur a fine, about 500 baht per day if immigration is in a good mood...
