I am planning to carry 2 KG of protein powder in check in baggage for personal use. Will there be any issues with customs or airline security?

I am travelling on Thai Airways.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Carrying 2 KG of protein powder in check-in baggage when flying on Thai Airways is generally acceptable with little concern for problems with customs or airline security. Many commenters suggest that protein powder is widely available in Thailand, encouraging travelers to consider purchasing it locally instead. Some noted experiences indicate that while customs may swab test the item, they have never faced issues bringing protein powder into the country. However, it's wise to keep it in its original, unopened packaging to avoid complications. The general consensus is that travelers should not worry excessively, but they may also find protein supplements to be more expensive in Thailand.

There are many many stores in Thailand that sell good brand protein powders .. there’s a lot of good gyms and a lot of Thai and foreigners living in Thailand that buy in Thailand …. U don’t need to bring it but as the Thais say. Up to u
Daniel **********
Just buy it here.
Sam *******
Can buy it all here.
Sam *******
He only needs 2kg. Not a problem

@Sam ******
no you can’t. Very limited choice and extremely overpriced!

There’s a poster here who pm me with a vid link (also posted in this thread), claims I commented which I didn’t, WARNING ⚠️
Terry ********
I’ve brought that much here with no problem. Contrary to what some here say, not all brands are available and I’ve found very little choice online.

I travel to Phuket 3 times a year and stay for 2 months a time from the US and have packed containers of protein powder, creatine, glutamine, amino’s as well as a variety of other supplements including vitamins. I’ve read other comments saying just buy them in Thailand however I like the brands that I’ve been taking and they don’t sell them in Thailand. I’ve had no problems as some of my luggage has been searched as they always leave a notice in your luggage if it has been searched.
Ryan ***********
@Steven ******
Thailand is overpriced and it’s trash brands

The American TSA notes say as such only in English.

Not sure, but I'd think notes from Thai customs would have both Thai & English on them.

Have a safe journey.

Cheers

I reckon' that's your American TSA "searched" note-- not from the Thais innit?!

@Phil *******
Not sure, as I’ve had the notices going to Phuket as well as returning back into the US, however the notices are in English

🤔 what other supplements have you taken in , I was thinking of taking some intro-muscular supplements back with me in September but wasn’t sure
Steven *******

As long as they are over the counter supplements you should be ok.

That brand they sell all over Thailand. I could only find one seller with good quality whey protein powder without artificial sweeteners or colors and it was expensive.
Aaron *******
Leave it in original container and unopened.
Hovvard ******
Why do people always want to bring a bunch of stuff to Thailand? It's a modern country, you can buy anything there.
Alan *******
@Hovvard *****
Heaps of things you can’t get in Thailand or if you can, they cost 30-100% more or you’re stuck buying Chinese knock offs from Lazada
Brian *******
@Hovvard *****
Wrong. Medicinal prescription skin ointments I use are not available in Thailand. "Breathe Right" stickies not available in Thailand (useless knock off's from Lazada). Etc.
Steve **********
@Hovvard *****
my experience is the opposite, there are a ton of things that I can’t find, or are difficult to find, or have very limited selection, or are of poor quality.
Stuart *********
@Steve *********
so true, Vital Greens are twice as expensive in Thailand, I cannot find anything comparable there.

absolutely, I don’t even take luggage 🧳! Never, shorts, T-shirt and trainer’s is what I wear on the plane ✈️, next day market 🤗

I bought a big bag of American protein shake from Lazada for a good price whilst here not worth bringing it.

Whilst you're at it, take 2kg of talc as well. Make customs work for their money.
Carl ********
I took my pre workout powder in check-in luggage and was fine!

I know some people who caried forbidden stuff( risk : 20 years in jail) and made it through . You made it through doesn't mean s***!!
Carl ********
@Giorgio *****
what are you on about? Pre workout is not forbidden. It’s not drugs 😂 i
Giorgio ******
@Carl *******
just enquire !!! Before talking !🤔🤔. And giving such advice
Carl ********
@Giorgio *****
do you understand what you’re saying? Pre workout and whey protein is sold in gyms around Thailand and no doubt shops. So can you tell me how it’s forbidden?
Giorgio ******
@Carl *******
I never said it's forbidden . If it's sold throughout Thailand tell me whi wants to carry 2kg through borders and through custols .

Obviously you are completely ignorant about laws regarding customs in Thailand . Just keep doing what ever you think you know . I do'nt give a ****

In case you're not aware , paracetamol is sold everywhere in Thailand , and it's sold all over the world without prescriptions ! Do you know you're not allowed to take it through thai borders !??🤣🤣🤣🤣 you smart a$$ !
Carl ********
@Giorgio *****
why are you being so rude? You’re a grown man clearly brought up with zero Manners! Being a keyboard warrior make you feel important does it? If you can read you will see I’ve not told him to take his protein I just stated that i took my pre- workout with me and I know many people who take there supps with them too! Supplements in Thailand are extremely expensive. Now get some manners you wanker
Steve ********
Bobby ********
Get it here ffs. Lazada is your friend
Michael *********
You need to show proof of guns to carry
Chris **********
I wouldn’t bother. Just buy it over there

Put it in condoms and swallow it just in case. Not worth the hassle taking it in the luggage and getting checked.
Gary **********
Just buy it when you get there .
Brett **********
Just don't hide your drugs in the middle. You'll be asking for trouble
Adam ***********
No problem at all. They may swab test but I’ve never had to go through that in S.E. Asia. Yes, protein powder is more expensive here and you won’t get the discounts you may be used to.
Pol ************
Thats like the weirdest thing you are trying to smuggle into Thailand 😂
Brett **********
Put it into 1g baggies and swallow it. You'll be fine

...and walk through the airport in dark glasses - wiping the sweat off your forehead...💦
John ***********
@Martin ********
sounds like can anyone tell me the best place to buy my roids.
Brett **********
@Martin ********
it's Thailand. They're more suspicious if you're not sweating. I need to Google what 2kg of protein powder rupturing in a stomach does to the sweat glands
Kate ************
@Brett *********
omg I nearly fell over laughing so much. Damn that’s funny

@Kate ***********
also, I'd just like to point out,.in case my parents are reading this, I have no idea what I'm referencing but I probably learnt it watching Grange Hill and they were right all along

Also, unless you're British of a certain age you're not going to get that reference either but I can assure you, it was very funny

as much as I appreciate the comment you really need to get out more and see proper comedians. They say much funnier things x

Waste of luggage allowance. All brands available here in Thailand at both local shops and online on Lazada or Shopee at around the same price.
Lawrence **********
ITS FINE... worst case scenario they would do a quick test on it. No biggie. Bring what you are used to taking.
Steve *******
@Lawrence *********
Worst case scenario it would be confiscated and the OP fined.
Lawrence **********
@Steve ******
.. NO.. not if it's protein powder.
Steve *******
@Lawrence *********
Many raw food based products are confiscated on entry, a lot depends on how it's packaged.

Chances are it wont be a problem. Tinned and vacuum sealed food products are fine.
Steve *******
You shouldnt have any problem but as
@Mat****
said just buy it in Thailand, all the brands are widely available
Matthew *********
Why would you do that? You can get all protein powder’s possible in Thailand
Michael ********
@Matthew ********
no you cant choices are limited and expensive
Garrett ***********
@Matthew ********
Protine is really expensive here, and there's like 2 brands.
Matthew *********
@Garrett **********
I’ve never had a problem, loads of options in Phuket every where, also no lack of natural high protein foods
