TLDR : Answer Summary
The adequacy of a bus ticket from Bangkok to Siem Reap as proof of onward travel for airlines and immigration varies by airline. Some travelers have successfully used bus tickets, while others have reported being denied boarding. Alternatives like refundable flight tickets or open plane tickets are suggested. However, travelers are advised to verify their airline’s policy regarding onward travel documentation in advance.

The onward ticket "thing" seems pointless. If someone intentionally wants to overstay ,,,do you think a cheap onward ticket will prevent that. 🤔

Same here,,I’m still undecided as to my next move….do I extend the visa or move on. ? Surely the airlines & immigration have woke up to the “Onward ticket“ rort…they probably own the companies that sell them. 😆

I've had an airline refuse to accept a bus ticket. So maybe check with you airline first.

Why not just book flight ticket with Thai air, and say pay later, then you get full ticket, and if you not pay thai just cancle the flight, do it same day you fly in to thailand and you have ull ticket for free, I have done many times

I just checked this with a trial booking from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur and the Thai Airways website wants 330 THB for holding the reservation for 48 hours. Are you sure this still works free of charge?

I log in as member we get it free, for 4 weeks ago, maybe they start to charge, but 330 thb is nothing, so if they do, still the best way to do, thanks for update :-)

when you book online with thai airways, you can choose in the end credit card or pay later, if you say pay later you get valid flight ticket for 48 hours offcause you cannot use for check in before you pay, but for immigration they accept it, as and return flight, clever hmmm.. If not pay they cancle it... Easy is it not :-)

Really depends on the airline. Certainly has worked for some. Technically it’s a ticket out of thailand so it should but you may be hassled by the airline staff on boarding.
