Is AUD cash accepted as proof of funds for visa-free entry to Thailand?

Hi everyone, I’m a Fijian passport holder and I’d really appreciate some advice. Please forgive my English if it’s not perfect.

I’m planning to travel to Thailand soon and I saw that Fiji is eligible for 60-day visa-free entry.

My concern is about the proof of funds requirement. I’m seeing that it has increased from 10,000 THB per person to 20,000 THB.

The issue is:

Fiji currently doesn’t have Thai Baht available

My transit/layover is very short (around 40 minutes)

I will be carrying about AUD 2,000 in cash

My questions are:

Will AUD cash be accepted as proof of funds instead of Thai Baht?

Is the 20,000 THB proof of funds usually strictly checked for visa-free entry?

I had a 2-day overstay in June 2023, paid the fine before leaving — will this affect my re-entry to Thailand?

Thank you so much in advance 🙏 I really appreciate any advice or experiences.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Fijian passport holder inquired about traveling to Thailand, specifically regarding the 20,000 THB proof of funds requirement for visa-free entry. They raised concerns about not having Thai Baht available due to limited transit time and carrying AUD cash instead. Community members generally confirmed that AUD cash is accepted as equivalent proof of funds and that strict checking of this requirement is not common, although some travelers may face queries. It was also noted that if the traveler is only transiting and does not need to clear immigration, the funds may not be necessary.

No issues, your also not likely to be asked either, they are more focused on bouncers

If you are transiting to another country you won’t need to clear immigration. $2k AUS is around 40,000 baht.

I seriously hope you don't have to clear immigration in Thailand, that's a very tight stop so you're going to be very short of time and BKK is a very big airport. Assuming you don't have to clear immigration the funds for Thailand are irrelevant.

Of course. Any currency will be accepted. No one enters with Thai bahts. You change your money into Baht, when you need it

I’d be more worried about your 40 minute layover than the money! That’s tight!

Its 20,000 Thai Baht or foreign currency equivalent..

So you have nothing to worry about..

And if it's your first time to Thailand its extremely unlikely you will questioned about funds anyway.

2000 aussie should get you around 40,000 baht so that is plenty.

Any cash equivalent is fine.

You should have no issue, but every entry is up to the officer you are in front of.
