Wise multi currency card - just received an email that this product is finally available to Canadians. I love Wise - I use for transfers to Thailand, saves me bringing wads of cash or incurring big ATM fees. Just wondering how useful this card would be?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Wise multi-currency card has recently become available to Canadians and is viewed as a potentially useful tool for managing funds when traveling to Thailand. Users have expressed concerns about the card's ATM withdrawal limits, which allow only two withdrawals a month of up to $350 CAD each, after which fees apply. Some users recommend alternatives, citing better options like Revolut or accounts such as Charles Schwab and ING that offer fee reimbursement on ATM withdrawals. The Wise card can be loaded with Thai baht, which allows users to take advantage of favorable exchange rates.

Better off with an ING bank account. You get your ATM fees reimbursed. I use it over seas. My account is in Australia but you should be able to open in Canada. No fee's

The Wise card is not the greatest for routing cash access through ATMs. It only allows two withdraws a month of $350 CAD each. Then it is $1.50 fee per withdraw and then 1.75% over that if a subsequent withdraw exceeds $350 CAD. It also has "default" transaction limits that I guess are a security feature. However, at least some of these limits can be increased.

You have more flexibilty when using it to pay for stuff as a debit card. I was thinking about using it to buy domestic airfare, for example.

One good thing about it is that you can load with baht. So the currency is converted when transfered into the Wise account. You can keep an eye on the exchange rates and load it when things look a bit more favorable on the rate side.

Yeah. That’s great news.

Open a Charles Schwab checking account. All transaction fees and debit fees are refunded to your account the first of every month

It's essentially a debit card on a virtual bank account. You get 2 free ATM withdrawals a month which is more than enough for me. I currently just use my GFs bank - do wise transfer to her, she withdraws and gives me the cash. Works fine, but was thinking this Wise card would be useful. I also have a CC that does not impose the standard 2.5% Forex fee.

WISE charged a pretty high ATM withdrawal fee and there's a monthly limit on how much you can withdraw.

Mine is Singaporean account though, and I do think Revolut is better options.
