TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience of trying to open a new account with K Bank in Maha Sarakham, only to be informed that they needed to visit branches in Bangkok or Chonburi. Community members weighed in, suggesting that the refusal might be laziness on the part of the staff and encouraged trying different branches or banks. Several comments highlighted the importance of choosing the right branch, as each operates independently, meaning problems encountered later could only be resolved at the same location.

Maha Sarakham
Anna *********
It sounds like they just didn’t want to not help you. Just try a different branch
Jo **********
try SCB please
John *********
Just remember, each bank branch operates independently. This means - if you need proof of funds in your account, you cannot get help at another branch of the same bank. It’s the craziest thing I ever heard of, but this is the way it is.

For trouble free banking go to Krungthai bank.

thank you I’m only opening another account so I don’t have to use ATM for cash and can use online banking etc I’m going Bangkok next week to Bangkok Bank problem like so many others lol

If you own your property, with the Tabian Ban Blue Book, with Yellow Tabian Ban one, it'll be easier to open your savings account. They want to ensure your official residence in Thailand.

Really ? I own property include Tabian Ban (Yellow Book) + Pink Card mostly the bank are refused to open the bank account. They need valid work permit

Just try different banks and branches, I had to try 10 different banks before krungsri would eventually let me open one
Fra *****
I did in Hua hin

choose wisley, as wherever you open your account...is the only place you can go if you have any problems... no other branch will do a thing for you...
Kim *********
@James ********
how many banks are you familiar with? 1?
Robert **********
James Beswick you can also change branches or you can with SCB.

I opened my account with SCB in Phuket when I lived there when I moved to Buriram I moved my account to the branch in Buriram

@Joe *****
BKK bank in my 25 years experience here will not assist you anthing account wise has to be done at account opening branch
Joe ******
@Andy ******
I don't have that problem with my bank at all, I have used branches all over Thailand to assist with my account. Maybe you should change banks.
Andy *******
@Joe *****
can't be ar***d plus been with them 25 years since I had my company in bkk but they are inflexible but It was easier in the past just open a new account I now still have original in bkk and my main account here in prachuap ..currently it's much more a pain
Joe ******
@Andy ******
CBA is the issue then 😁
Carlos *********
@Joe *****
you have to pay fees to use another branch, but they'll be happy to take your money. Only your branch will not charge fees. Like 10%, too
Joe ******
@Carlos ********
I don't have to pay fees though, some people may do obviously. Why don't you just change branch if that's your issue, or open another account? It's not really an issue.
Carsten ************
@Joe *****
you can't change a home branch at Bangkok Bank. Just accept the reality.
Joe ******
@Carsten ***********
I don't need to accept your reality, I don't use that bank, if I were you I would just open another bank account. Problem solved 👍
Graham ******
@James ********
what bank because that is not my experience?
Chris ************
@Graham *****
Bangkok Bank...
Marine *********
@Chris ***********
yes it's true when you use atm at different province you pay fees
Graham ******
@Marine ********
& Chris Jorimann if paying 15B or 20B for an ATM withdrawal is a problem then you have a problem
Marine *********
@Graham *****
i don't say is a problem

I say you have to pay for it

I don't know we're you get this
Graham ******
@Marine ********
The OP was saying about potential problems and your response was the ATM fee so it follows you regard that as a problem
Chris **********
@Marine ********
True 20BhT @ ATM machine for same bank different province
Mark ********
@James ********
that’s not true. I opened my Krungsri account in Nonthaburi in 2018. I moved to Korat in 2020. I do all my banking and have handled numerous problems at the Krungsri branch at The Mall. They’ve never once told me to go to Nonthaburi to handle any of it.
Colin **********
@Mark *******
this is not my experience, a local branch offer a statement that type of thing, but once you ask for a new passbook or account changes no way, I closed my accounts in Bangkok and opened them in my hometown when I stopped working .
Mark ********
@Colin *********
I just got two new passbooks a few days ago with updates of my accounts. Khrunsri has as always been great and I’m not at my original branch.
Colin **********
@Mark *******
I think its only Bangkok bank, sounds like another to leave lol
Carlos *********
@Mark *******
then you are paying fees to use abother branch.
Mark ********
@Carlos ********
no I’m not. You have no idea what you’re talking about. Just making stupid assumptions !
Carsten ************
@Mark *******
not stupid at all. Aa soon you cross a border to another province, you will pay fees for any transaction you do.
Max *************
@Carsten ***********
Not when crossing a border to another province, but another region.
Max *************
@Mark *******
Then your're lucky because most banks in Thailands 77 provinces will tell you to go to your branch, especially if we're talking about different provinces/regions.
Charlie ******
@Max ************
no they do not. I have all mine opened in Bangkok with nearly all major banks. I do my banking in Chon buri now days, never got told off.

Might have something to do on how you open the account, holding a WP or not etc as such is marked in their systems.
Max *************
@Charlie *****
I don't know how long you been in Thailand, but many banks don't want anything to do with accounts opened in another region.
Charlie ******
Max *************
@Charlie *****
I opened my first account 1991. I've been staying in three provinces with accounts in all three. Now I'm living in Jomtien since many years.I think I know a bit about banks in Thailand.
Charlie ******
@Max ************
What you explained has never happened to me or anyone around me, and as I mentioned, I have accounts with almost all of the major banks… KTB, Krungsri, K-Bank, UOB, GSB, BBL, SCB… and even credit cards with three of them. Not once have I ever been redirected to my main branches on these accounts.
James *********
@Mark *******
that's good to hear, just my experience & luck with them then... 👍
Max *************
Just try another branch and why would you try banks in different provinces?
Brandon ************
Most likely they're just lazy and don't want to deal with it. So they try to push you off on someone else.
