What are the insurance requirements for extending an STV visa in Thailand, specifically regarding the $100,000 coverage and the necessity for a Thai insurance company?

Since the recent changes to insurance requirements, has anyone had any luck extending their STV (particularly in Jomtien) with the lowered 10k USD coverage for Covid medical treatment? At Chaengwattana it seems they are still sticking with the 100k USD coverage requirement...

Also could someone explain why the cover must be from a Thai company only? As I have worldwide medical cover from an insurance company based in the UK but it wasn't accepted at Thai immigration and I don't understand why this might be the case.

TLDR : Answer Summary
This discussion addresses the recent changes in insurance requirements for the Special Tourist Visa (STV) in Thailand, highlighting a confusion between the insurance coverage needed for an STV visa extension and the Thailand Pass. Several comments clarify that the insurance requirement for the STV remains at $100,000, while the Thailand Pass requirement has been lowered to $10,000. Additionally, there is concern regarding why only insurance from Thai companies is accepted, despite having a policy from a UK-based provider.

Suggest you contact your insurance company or a Thai agent to further discuss your needs for your STV Visa extension.

There is no relationship between the insurance required for the Thai Pass and that of the STV Visa and its extensions.

The insurance for STV is $100,000 and always has been. It's the Thailand Pass that they've lowered to $10,000 but that doesn't effect the STV. The STV is written into law and doesn't change.

Is there any reason why the insurance must be from a Thai company only? As the visa was originally approved with insurance from a UK based company.. but now it seems I can't use that insurance any more for making the extension... or could this be different if I tried applying at different immigration office?

Unfortunately buying the visa from a thai consulate and getting an in country extension are two completely different things.

these are the companies they suggest you use

the UK Thai Embassy was lenient when they approved your STV Visa.

You should have initiatially obtained insurance to cover all of the time you planned to stay using the STV Visa.

wanna elaborate on that or you just gonna lip off and leave it at that?

There are no changes to the STV requirements to buy it from a thai consulate before you come here OR to get a 90 day extension inside the country at the immigration office

Please enlighten us with your view with the in your mind correct answer. Just telling others are wrong is not a way forward.

Nope...the extension requirements for the STV Visa are set..you agreed to them when you applied for the STV Visa.

The health insurance required remains US $100,000.

Suggest you stop by the local Thai immigration office where your address is registered and ask for their list of STV Visa extension requirements.
