I'll be applying for a Long Stay Visas (OA, OX) this year and i'm just trying to get my head around the two Insurance requirements and the difference between them.

1. Foreign Insurance Certificate issued from the country where the application is submitted

2. Health Insurance issued by a Thai or foreign insurer for general illnesses

Are these two seperate insurance policies?

Thanks in advance for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is clarifying the insurance requirements for Long Stay Visas OA and OX, specifically whether they need separate insurance policies. Comments indicate both visas share the same requirement of a 3 million baht health insurance policy from specific Thai insurers. There is skepticism about obtaining a foreign insurance certificate due to difficulties with companies signing the necessary paperwork. Additionally, the non-O visa has a different and less stringent insurance requirement.

Forget getting 1. You will find very few insurance companies at home will sign the paperwork to get accepted. I use axa easy care to keep my OX

I had checked AXA, they seem to be tailored specifically for that visa type and very affordable. Thx 🙏

The OA and the OX both have the same insurance requirement. A 3 million baht policy from a specific list of Thai insurers. There are rumors that this requirement may be changing back to the previous amount required, but if or when that happens is anyone's guess.

The non-O visa is the only visa that might or might not require a small insurance policy in order to apply from the Thai embassy. Some embassies still require and some do not. But this normally only needs to be 100,000 baht and only in effect for 90 days. A travel insurance policy would cover it.

so that’s No.2, then what is No.1?🙏

no 1 is if you use a company from your home country. You can use 1 or 2 but not many home company’s will sign paperwork for 1 the foreign insurance

no clue. There's no other insurance requirement for non-OA and non-OX.

no foreign insurance company will sign the documents that Thailand requires. So you're going to have to get the Thai insurance policy.

I'm more confused now.

nothing to be confused about. Simply forget about the mention of foreign insurance and get the Thai insurance and you be guaranteed it's acceptable

thx Wayne, I guess that’s the confusing part, that they would request something that’s not needed.

it's needed if your able to get insurance in Australia but I could not find any that would sign the required paperwork. Hence best to just do thai insurance.

confused by what? If you want to use a foreign insurance certificate, your insurance company must sign special Thai documents. It clearly lists that requirement in your screenshot. No insurance company will do this. So you must get your insurance from the list of Thai companies. You're making it way more complicated that it needs to be. Just get the insurance from the list of Thai companies. They have policies for the OX and OA.
