TLDR : Answer Summary
Expats applying for the STV (Special Tourist Visa) in Thailand typically need insurance coverage that includes two primary requirements: a minimum coverage of $100,000 specifically for Covid-19 treatment and additional health benefits covering normal accidents and sickness. Policies often vary; some cover only symptomatic cases of Covid-19, while others may provide broader coverage including asymptomatic cases. It's also advisable to ensure the policy meets Thai immigration standards, which have specific definitions for 'unlimited' coverage versus predefined limits in both inpatient and outpatient scenarios.

just two conditions: over 100.000 usd and covid-19 treatment included - please note - for Thai immigration unlimited means NOT the same as over 100k both for in- and outpatient

Maybe you are thinking because it states insurance with $100,000 Covid. Not 2 separate, Rolled into 1. I got Luma, easy, fast, good customer service, but you pay the medical bill then bill them for reimbursement.

Why? Do you know someone whose cousin works with a guy who divorced a lady who went to school with a judge?

It depends on your policy. It has to cover a minimum of $100,000 for Covid treatment. However, many policies only pay out if you are symptomatic. If you get here and test positive you will be sent to hospital and a lot of policies are not covering for asymptomatic cases. Best bet is to work closely with your insurer to make sure your policy covers:

Normal accidents, sickness etc. Up to 400,000 baht inpatient

40,000 baht outpatient

Covid cover $100,000 for symptomatic AND asymptomatic hospitalization.
