TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing confusion regarding the medical insurance requirements for a Non-O visa based on marriage, as they were informed that COVID-19 insurance was no longer required. Various comments indicate a discrepancy in the application processes across embassies, with some stating that general health insurance is still required while COVID-specific insurance is not. Others suggest applying for the visa from within Thailand after arriving on a tourist visa to circumvent the insurance requirement.

, Which Embassy/Consulate are you applying for your visa at? Sorry if I missed it.

Even if they are using the same eVisa system, the requirements detail varies at each consulate. Description of requirements at another consulate may or may not help OP.

Non-Imm-O based on marriage/Thai spouse, doesn't require insurance. The requirements are as follows:

@Jason *******
better to enter Thailand on a tourist visa and apply for the Non-O here, no insurance requirements then

USA Thai Consulate doesn’t mention health insurance either. I wasn’t asked for health insurance in the past.

Australian Thai embassy website doesn't mention anything of the sort either. It basically states the same requirements as the above screenshot (which is from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs)

Thought so

Thought you didn't need insurance for a yearly non o based on marriage?

OP is talking about an initial visa. You are talking about a 1-year extension. They are different...

Why don’t you arrive visa exempt or tourist visa and apply in country ?

I guess you try to apply using the On line website:

And in there, just before the end you need to upload a health insurance as part of the requirements to apply for the Non Immigrant O visa based on being married with a Thai National.

afaik this is a leftover (as withon the STV application), as covid related insurance is defenitely not needed anymore - have another case running about this and will report back

Maybe it is a mistake and they want to see the 400k/40k there?

I believe that someone else here used their travel insurance with the London embassy for a Non-O visa. I asked for more details at the time but I think that part of the thread was later hidden.

I guess you can try out as there is no covid insurance needed but a general health insurance.

do you think I can put in just normal travel insurance - even though it won’t state 100,000 usd Covid coverage
Richard *******
Now I am confused. So regular health insurance is required, but covid insurance is not?
Chris *******
@Richard ******
Covid specific insurance was only required by ThaiPass.

General health insurance is required for certain Visa types (and usually also covers covid as General sickness).

Insurance requirements vary by Visa AND Embassies.

Not all countries have the same requirements.

Converting a tourist Visa in country to a non-o based on marriage requires no insurance.

Out of earlier reports, a health insurance is asked if you apply for this type of visa.
Chris *******
The Thai Pass was dropped and the requirement for Covid insurance for entry into the kingdom. Nothing to do with visa.

However the health insurance requirements for Visas has not changed.
