TLDR : Answer Summary
The STV (Special Tourist Visa) requires both travel and medical insurance. You must show insurance that covers COVID-19 with a minimum coverage of $100,000 and additional medical insurance with at least 400,000 baht for inpatient and 40,000 baht for outpatient services. There are mixed opinions about the STV's viability and extension process, with some suggesting that flexibility is limited. It's recommended to carefully assess these requirements and consider other types of visas if flexibility is a priority.

Any one know insurance requirements for a 60 + 30 tourist visa?

@Brendan ****
Health insurance with the coverage of at least 100,000 USD and covering COVID-19 treatment during the stay in Thailand. The health insurance scheme must indicate that it covers illness from COVID-19. I have one of plans that meet requirements Axa). Please PM me for more info.

So it is only the Thai aproved list that i see for the STV?

What if you convert touris visa to education visa. You need Thai aproved insurance?

All help welcome

special tourist visa. *DO NOT GET* a STV unless you know it’s the visa for you. If you have any doubts, get a SETV (Single Entry Tourist Visa) instead

How much for insurance for STV for year?

STV is the worst visa imaginable. Yes, insurance for the entire trip. Yes, must book abd pay for your entire trip in advance. No flexibility at all. You cannot exchange or extend.
Damo ********
Hey guys, do you know what level of insurance cover must be taking out for STV extension?
Benjamin ******
@Damo *******
Same requirements as the original visa. I hope you aren't trying to extend your current insurance coverage :O
Damo ********
@Benjamin *****
They said they can't extend it and need to take out new policy which is over twice the amount. Is that right?
Benjamin ******
@Damo *******
Who is "they" and what can't they extend?
Damo ********
@Benjamin *****
Axa insurance & can't extend their insurance longer than the original 3 months for the STV.
Benjamin ******
@Damo *******
:( Did you talk to your agent, or just the Helpdesk people on the phone?
Damo ********
@Benjamin *****
I spoke with the person who issued my intial insurance before I arrived.
Benjamin ******
@Damo *******
What immigration office are you using?
Damo ********
Benjamin ******
@Damo *******
Honestly, if I were you, I would mentally prepare myself for the extension of stay based on STV to be rejected. I was helping someone today who entered on a STV with 3 months insurance, got another extension for another 3 months, and Bangkok Immigration rejected her with the extension.

You'll also have to meet the same requirements as you used to enter on the STV for the insurance and pre-booked hotel (or a condo that you owned). I know in Bangkok they are being very strict about issuing those extension of stays.
Damo ********
@Benjamin *****
Why did they reject her extension?
Benjamin ******
@Damo *******
According to her, its' because she purchased an extension to her existing insurance policy, and the immigration office expects a single insurance policy (i.e. 180 days if you're staying 6 months, not 90 days + 90 days). She's still trying though, so we'll see what'll happen.

It's a new visa, and it's one that they are being extremely tight about.

@Benjamin *****
Appreciate the heads up 🙂🙏

@Stan ******
maybe it is not the best visa available but it definitely is better that it is available than not. It gives people another option.

What actual proof do you have that it is a flop?
Stuart *********
@Stan ******
whilst I don’t disagree with you on the STV being the worst visa, it is extendable twice, each for 90 days. I believe you have to show fully paid up accommodation and insurance if you apply to extend.
Ian *****
@Stuart ********
I extended and all they asked for was passport, TM30 sheet and an application form. Nothing else....that was in Chiang Mai
Stan *******
@Stuart ********
lots of better easier ways to get months and have freedom without all mandatory costs. It's the most insane idea Thailand ever came up with and... By the way, a total flop
Tod *********
and you know it is a total flop how exactly
@Stan ******
? Consult your "crystal balls" or ask a Magic 8 Ball?
Tony *********
Yes for STV you need to show Covid-19 insurance which shows coverage of at least 100,000usd and you need to show medical insurance that shows inpatient amount of 400,000baht and outpatient amount of 40,000baht . I think that's right

Someone correct me if I'm wrong
Andy ********
@Tony ********
absolutely correct. I don't understand why some feel the need to comment when they don't actually know.
Shayne **********
You STV(STD) has limited options after
***
months. I would just get a tourist visa.
Viem ******
Travel or Medical insurance should show it covers Corvid (in case you re sick that I hope NOT). The Thai autority may ask you this....
Andy ********
@Viem *****
wrong. You need 400k/40k Baht inpatent/outpatient cover as well as the $100,000 COVID cover.
Viem ******
@Andy *******
not correct! My friend came for a visit as tourist, what he needed in term of med insurance was Corvid cover certificate from his insurance company in his own country...his total cover included Corvid if ill, is 1 million usd...
Andy ********
@Viem *****
the post specifically talks about the STV. This ia an old post when the STV was widely available.
Jo *********
@Andy *******
can it be the same insurance contract or do we need to subscibe 2 contract insurance? (one for covid and one for inpatient/outpatient)?
Andy ********
@Wei ***
can be the same. Luma do a very good policy.
