TLDR : Answer Summary
The STV (Special Tourist Visa) requires both travel and medical insurance. You must show insurance that covers COVID-19 with a minimum coverage of $100,000 and additional medical insurance with at least 400,000 baht for inpatient and 40,000 baht for outpatient services. There are mixed opinions about the STV's viability and extension process, with some suggesting that flexibility is limited. It's recommended to carefully assess these requirements and consider other types of visas if flexibility is a priority.

Health insurance with the coverage of at least 100,000 USD and covering COVID-19 treatment during the stay in Thailand. The health insurance scheme must indicate that it covers illness from COVID-19. I have one of plans that meet requirements Axa). Please PM me for more info.

special tourist visa. *DO NOT GET* a STV unless you know it’s the visa for you. If you have any doubts, get a SETV (Single Entry Tourist Visa) instead

STV is the worst visa imaginable. Yes, insurance for the entire trip. Yes, must book abd pay for your entire trip in advance. No flexibility at all. You cannot exchange or extend.

Same requirements as the original visa. I hope you aren't trying to extend your current insurance coverage :O

They said they can't extend it and need to take out new policy which is over twice the amount. Is that right?

Honestly, if I were you, I would mentally prepare myself for the extension of stay based on STV to be rejected. I was helping someone today who entered on a STV with 3 months insurance, got another extension for another 3 months, and Bangkok Immigration rejected her with the extension.

You'll also have to meet the same requirements as you used to enter on the STV for the insurance and pre-booked hotel (or a condo that you owned). I know in Bangkok they are being very strict about issuing those extension of stays.

Why did they reject her extension?

According to her, its' because she purchased an extension to her existing insurance policy, and the immigration office expects a single insurance policy (i.e. 180 days if you're staying 6 months, not 90 days + 90 days). She's still trying though, so we'll see what'll happen.

It's a new visa, and it's one that they are being extremely tight about.

maybe it is not the best visa available but it definitely is better that it is available than not. It gives people another option.

What actual proof do you have that it is a flop?

whilst I don’t disagree with you on the STV being the worst visa, it is extendable twice, each for 90 days. I believe you have to show fully paid up accommodation and insurance if you apply to extend.

I extended and all they asked for was passport, TM30 sheet and an application form. Nothing else....that was in Chiang Mai

lots of better easier ways to get months and have freedom without all mandatory costs. It's the most insane idea Thailand ever came up with and... By the way, a total flop

Yes for STV you need to show Covid-19 insurance which shows coverage of at least 100,000usd and you need to show medical insurance that shows inpatient amount of 400,000baht and outpatient amount of 40,000baht . I think that's right

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

absolutely correct. I don't understand why some feel the need to comment when they don't actually know.
