I’m currently living in Bangkok and trying to extend my 90 day non-O spousal visa. Preferably extend for a year. Does anyone know the requirements and process? I’m open to using an expeditor as well, if anyone has any recommendations. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process to extend a 90-day Non-O spousal visa in Thailand typically involves gathering several documents including proof of sufficient funds (400,000 THB), a marriage certificate, and specifics regarding your living situation. Consulting your local immigration office directly is recommended, and using an expeditor might simplify the process, though it's not always necessary. Community members suggest confirming requirements at your local office and preparing all necessary documentation in advance.

If you are paying an "expeditor", you shouldn't need much at all 😅

sometimes you don't even need to GO to the immigration office (if you have the right expeditor) :O :P

Very true.

If you have the 400K THB seasoned in your bank account for 60 days, there is *NO REASON* to use a visa agent or whatever. The specifics vary across immigration offices, but you will need:

1. Your spouse to be next to you, and

a. Her blue book and a copy of the front page of the book

2. proof of the 400K THB bank statement

3. Your passport and:

a. A copy of your data ("picture") page

b. A copy of your entry stamp

c. A copy of your visa

d. A copy of your departure card (stapled)

4. A TM30 filed of where you and your wife live

5. Your marriage certificate, and a copy of your marriage certificate

6. A *HAND DRAWN* map to your house

7. The application form (gotten at the immigration office)

8. 2x passport pictures

9. 1,900 THB for the application fee.

I believe those are all the requirements you need to get the one year extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national.

When does your current 90 day Non-O stamp run out?

The reason I ask IS, if it's soon and you don't want a gun to your head trying to get everything together, just apply for a 60 day covid extension to buy you more time to get things sorted out

@Tod ********
what do you need for Covid extension?

Extent to an O Visa! Go to your local immigration office and speak with the officer. It’s pretty simple and no need to spend money on a third party!

Didn't you or your thai speaking wife ask for the hand out they give in Section L-1 out at Chaengwattana Immigrations where you apply for your year extension?

the one that lists the documents, the photos, the copies, etc

This is off the top of my head as far as what you need for a year marriage extension;

-Photo of you and your wife in front of your house showing the house numbers

-2 photos of you and your wife inside the house sitting at the table or on the couch

-hand drawn map of your neighborhood

-Kor Ror 2 & Kor Ror 3 thai marriage documents

copies of

-data page of your passport

-visa sticker

-entry stamp

-TM6 departure card

-TM30 receipt

-lease

Filled out TM7 Extension Application

bank letter (not older than 7 days)

update your bank book on the date you go apply for the extension so it shows the balance that day.

remember the funds have to be in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the extension

you'll get a 30 day "under consideration stamp" when you pay the 1900baht and apply, then you go back in a month and get the year extension inked in .

copy of wife's ID card, and if you rent, besides the lease, with the property's name on it, you need a copy of the owner's house book with their name in it, and copy of their ID card.

in the US. We’ve verified our marriage cert at the State Dept in California and again at the US Embassy in Bangkok. Now we’re told to verify it again with the Samut Sahkon district office

@Brian ***
You're not being told to "verify" anything :/ You're being told to go get a Kor Ror 22 :O

That is the document thais married abroad get.

GO to the local Amphur, get the hand out for what is required to get a Kor Ror 22 and get it

They want you to have THIS ค.ร.๒๒

Thanks again. It seems like we’re a couple steps away from getting it done. I’ll skip the expeditor.

it is a lot of documentation that you need. But it is better to do it yourself than go through an agent IMHO. If you use an agent you will never be quite sure of the requirements and you will be relying on that agent. I would much rather rely on myself.

the immigration ladies at ChiangWattana are very helpful for marriage extensions, and yes, they are all women. But, they will not do anything if you do not bring your wife with you. We have had the same lady the last three years, and she remembers us, and likes to gossip a little bit with my wife.
Tod *********
The most important question IS

do you meet the proof of funds on your own OR do you need the "expeditor" to "grease the wheel" so you can get the extension?
Kool *******
I have been doing my type O based on marriage/Thai wife for the last four years at ChiangWattana, and the only difference each year is requiring new bank letters, and all new photos. Everything else is the same, so make sure you keep copies of all your documents.

@Kool ******
yes always good idea, i just went for yellow book and they wanted translation/verification of passport. Luckily was same passport as when we got married so still had copies
Michael ********
Mine was

Marriage certificate

My passport copy and all pages.

Wifes ID

House Book.

Neighbours ID copy and signed. She also had to come for first visit.

Pictures of us by house number and in house.

Thanks Michael. We’re applying at the same office actually 😆We brought everything on the list you provided and they’re telling us to verify our marriage certificate again (3rd time lol). Did you extend for 1 year or 90 days?
Michael ********
@Brian ***
1 year
Michael ********
Didnt have bank book on list, one thing at that office i did bank letter and update of bank account and book day before. In addition they wanted to have signs of a bank movement the day of applying so had to go bank withdraw money from ATM and then update book and make copy of last page

@Brian ***
You cant extend for 90 days. It's 1 year or 60 days and for the 60 days no photos or finances are required. Verification/translation(?) required if you werent married in Thailand.

I do and have the funds in a thai bank account. But my wife and I have been told different things at the immigration office a number of times now so I figured maybe we should just get the expeditor to do it...unless someone here has done it recently and has a list of the required forms, etc.
Michael ********
@Brian ***
it all depends on your immigration office, i suggest a visit there with your wife and they should have a list there for you to follow. In my case they showed us a completed approved one to follow.
