TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend a Non-O (marriage) visa from 3 months to 1 year in Thailand, you must first legalize your marriage, which involves the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and possibly your wife's embassy. After legalization, you can submit your extension application. Required documents include: your wife's passport, Non-O visa, entry stamp, husband's ID, copies of both ID and house registration, a certified copy of the marriage certificate, the application form, passport photos, and a fee of 1,900 THB. Additional documents may be requested depending on the immigration office, such as a TM30 form, a house map, photos with your wife, witness statements, or rental contracts.

Here's the process.

1. You will need to get the marriage legalized in Thailand. You'd contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and potentially the wife's embassy. Legalizing marriages is outside the scope of this group.

2. Once you have the marriage legalized, then your wife can apply for an extension of stay based on marriage to a male Thai national. The requirements are much easier to meet then a foreign male marrying a Thai female: You'll need the

1. The wife, and the wife's passport and a copy of:

- The data ("picture") page

- The Non-O visa

- The entry stamp

- The departure card

2. The husband (you!) PHYSICALLY next to her, and

- your ID card and a copy of your ID card

- your housebook, and a copy of the first page

3. A certificated copy of the marriage certificate that you'll get from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

5. The application form

6. 2x passport pictures

7. 1,900 THB for the processing fee.

Different immigration offices have different requirements, and this may include:

- A copy of the TM30 filed where she live

- A hand drawn map to the house

- Pictures of you and your wife in various locations in the house (front of the house/ condo, in all rooms, etc)

- Witnesses or interviews with neighbors

- Rental contract (if renting property or a condo)

However, different immigration offices have different requirements. What immigration office are you using?

We will use immigration office in Bangkok. You mentioned to legalize/ certified minister of foreign affair, you mean ministry foreign affairs in Thailand, right? What is departure card? There is no financial requirement?

, could I ask if you know the process for getting married to a Thai man in Thailand? My partner and I are not married yet, but do you know if we can legally do so in Thailand and if I can then apply for the visa in the same process that you advised above? I’m Irish and on Covid extensions since my non-B expired in October 2020 (if any of this makes a difference lol). And would there be the 400,000 baht requirement if we married in Thailand? Thanks so much.

>My partner and I are not married yet, but do you know if we can legally do so in Thailand

You should be able to legally get married. You will need to go to your embassy and ask them for a freedom of marriage certificate or a letter to give to the Thai government saying you are able to be married. You'll get that letter translated at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. You'll go to the local Amphur office (the "city hall", all large cities have at least one), and ask them for the requirements to get married. You'll submit the paperwork and get married.

Once you're married, you need to talk to the local immigration office about your visa options. You MAY need to get a Non-O visa based on marriage to a Thai national. This would be 2K THB, and then you'd have to pay another 1,900 THB for a one year extension of stay. There is a possibility that you can get a one year extension of stay based on marriage straight from your current extension. That would be 1,900 THB.

There is *NO* financial requirements for a one year extension of stay based on marriage to a male Thai national, or a Non-O visa based on marriage to a male Thai national.

I am married to a Thai man for 27 years and Changwatana required photos of me at the house, by the house number and in various rooms. Also a drawn map to the house. They require these every year during extension as well. If you have a child, they will also ask for birth certificate copy.

>you mean ministry foreign affairs in Thailand,

That is correct. I mean the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand. They should be close to Changwattana.

>What is departure card?

When a person arrives in Thailand, they are given an arrival/ departure card called a TM.6. It should be stapled in the passport, and I'm attaching a picture of the card.

>There is no financial requirement?

There is no financial requirements for a one year extension of stay based on marriage to a male Thai national.
