When does immigration require proof of 800,000 THB funds from abroad for a Non-O visa in Thailand?

CHANGE OF VISA TYPE inside Thailand

You need about 3 months total to go from a visa-exempt entry OR a single-entry tourist visa,

first to a 90-days Non-imm-O retirement visa, and then to a “one year Extension of Stay Permit” based on retirement.

You need to have a minimum of 15 workdays left on your “admitted until” stamp in order to apply for the “change”.

You need to show a rental contract

So, if you're not going to be here at least 3 months, you don't have the time to pull off the “change of visa type” method – and from the visa to the one year stay permit based on retirement.

After you have been issued the “1-year Extension of Stay Permit”, you are free to travel again

The inside country "retirement visa" (really the 90 day Non-O visa and a year extension) are sold as NO entry because you're already IN Thailand when you apply for them.

The process works like this:

Get here on a 60-days tourist visa OR on a “visa-exempt entry”. The later is not recommended, as you need more time

*** - open a bank account, transfer from abroad a minimum of 800.000.- THB. In most Immigration offices, you will have to prove the money came from abroad.

At this stage, NO seasoning of the money is required (!)

***NOTE! WARNING !

ONLY Immigration Pattaya/Jomtien requires the funds to be seasoned 2 months before you apply for the 90-days Non-Imm-O visa itself.

This is Jomtien specific, and you should BEWARE! The only advantage is, if we can trust reports from people who have done the “change” at the Jomtien Immigration, they do not ask for the proof that the 800.000.- THB came from abroad

All the other Immigration offices only require the funds be in a Thai bank account in your sole name transferred in from abroad ON THE VERY DAY you apply.

*** go to the immigration office and apply for a 90 days Non-Imm-O retirement visa for 2000.- Baht. They will issue a stamp or a paper document, “under consideration”

*** wait for the “under consideration” period to end, visit Immigration and pick up your passport with the visa (2 weeks, depending on office)

*** Then wait until your 800.000.- THB funds have seasoned in your Thai bank account for 2 months. Visit your bank, get the “bank letter of guarantee” which certifies the 2 months period. The letter is called “rab roong thanakan” in Thai)

*** - go to the immigration office, apply for a year extension based on retirement for 1900.- Baht (it will be issued the same day in most offices)

*** - Once you get the year extension inked, you can buy a re-entry permit (single 1000.- Baht or multiple 3800.- Baht) With the multi re-entry permit, you will be able to exit and re-enter Thailand for unlimited times during the one year Extension of Stay

The foreign transfer requirement is only for converting to the non-O visa inside Thailand. The extension doesn't have this requirement at most immigration offices.

Depends on Immigration office. In Jomtien the 800k needs to be in your account 2 months before applying. Some require it’s shown as foreign transfer some don’t. Go to your local office and ask their requirements
