TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring about the timing for maintaining a bank balance of 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account when converting a TR visa to a Non-O visa and when applying for a yearly extension based on marriage. Community responses clarify that the funds need to be in the account only for two months before applying for the yearly extension, not the initial 90-day Non-O visa.

The money has nothing to do with the 90 days! When you go for visa , it has to be 2 months prior and 3 months after applying on the bank.

@Janin *****
thats for retirement visa the dicussion in thread is about marriage visa, different requirements

I'm going to piggyback on your question and ask: how long must you maintain that balance AFTER the visa is approved?
Steve *******
David Broadfoot The visa is issued immediately, it's only the extention of stay that goes 'under consideration'.
Greg *********
based on marriage

@Gre****
and are you asking about the extension based on marriage or based on being over 50 because they have totally different seasoning requirements for banked money method proof of funds.
Tod *********
@Gregory ********
okay, once you get the 90 day Non-O visa granted, THEN you need the money seasoned the 2 months before you apply for the yearly extension.

IF you are getting the extension based on marriage you will get a 30 day under consideration stamp on the date you apply for it AND the immigration office (at least in Bangkok) will tell you to leave the 400K baht in the account, update your bank book on the date you return to get your year extension inked in.

after is only for retirement extension, not marriage

@Gre****
supposedly 3 months. But no one asked me when we did the first 90 day check in.

@Steve *********
NOT for a 1 year extention of stay based on marriage. You can access the money as soon as the extention is stamped in your passport, at some Imm offices you can access whilst under consideration.

@Steve ******
not for me in BKK. I have to show the updated bank book when I pick up the extension. I’m currently “under consideration” and they told me the only thing I have to do when I come back is make sure my bank book is updated again. So once I get the extension then I’m free to do whatever.

@Steve *********
Exactly what I said. "you can access the money as soon as the extention is stamped in your passport" NOT 'supposedly 3 months' as you stated.

You don't need the 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the 90 day Non-O visa, ONLY when you go to apply for the year extension do the funds need to be seasoned.
Patrick ************
@Tod ********
no, you need to season for two months for first one
Tod *********
You don't
@Pat****
to get a 90 day Non-O visa inside the country at Chaengwattana immigration office in Bangkok OR in Chiang Mai at their immigration office you do NOT need the money seasoned not even one day.

The seasoning requirement comes into play during the year extension process only

cheers jus wanted to be sure.

You do need between 15 and 21 days left on your current stamp to apply for an in country Non-Immigrant Type visa at the immigration office though (that's because those applications go under consideration for 14 to 20 days)
Garrett ***********
@T**
You sure?
Tod *********
Yep,
@Gar****
I'm 100% sure that you do NOT need to have the funds seasoned a single day to apply for a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage OR on retirement at Chaengwattana Immigration office Section C-1 <- the section that issues in country visas :)
Garrett ***********
@T**
Awesome, honestly I didn't know that. I thought if you applied for the visa in country you needed the money in the bank. Learned something ;)
Tod *********
@Garrett **********
you DO need the money in the bank ;) It's just you can apply for the 90 day Non-O as soon as the international transfer clears into your account (as in there is no seasoning of it).

The seasoning comes into play only when you apply for the yearly extension AND by the time you can do that from the 90 day Non-O visa you just got stamped into your passport your funds WILL be seasoned the required amount :P
Veet ********
“International transfer clears?” Hopefully local transfer be okay too 😋

Also

d, if I understood l it correctly there IS still 400k requirement (but without 2 month seasoning) before 90 day non o marriage visa application?

Sorry got some contradicting info.

@Tod ********
perfect so soon as te money clears into my bank I can apply.
Patrick ************
@Neil ********
no need to season for 2 months then can spend. Money must come from overseas as a ransfer or wire, to apply for extension need 3 month seasoning
Tod *********
@Patrick ***********
, that is not correct either, an extension based on retirement OR marriage requires only 2 months seasoning before you apply for it. NOT 3 months :(
