I have a few questions regarding both the 60-day Tourist Visa (TR) and 90-day Special Tourist Visa (STV). When do your days start getting counted?β¦ Is it the date that the visa is approved at the Thai Embassy Canberra, OR, the date when you enter Thailand? How long do you have to start using the visa once itβs approved? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The countdown for both the 60-day Tourist Visa (TR) and the 90-day Special Tourist Visa (STV) starts on the date you enter Thailand, not on the date the visa is approved at the embassy. Typically, these visas allow for a 90-day validity once issued, meaning you should enter Thailand within this period. Upon arrival, you'll receive a stamp that indicates how long you can stay, which may differ from the original visa expiration.
Always keep in mind a visa issued at an embassy allows you to ENTER the country during its period of validity (as Michael points out, usually 90 days). On arrival, the immigration officer will give you a stamp which allows you to STAY in the country up to the expiry of the stamp, not the expiry of the original visa. Sounds a little complicated, but once you've done it a few times you get used to it
