TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the confusion regarding the implementation date of new visa rules in Thailand, with some contributors stating that the changes began on the 13th of November 2025, while others suggest it may be a moot point or that they are simply re-enforcing existing rules. Comments indicate that some immigration offices have already begun applying new instructions, particularly concerning visa exemptions and extensions.
no it's true.. so many old guys with retirement visas telling everyone to get the "right" visa.. it's seriously annoying.. do yourself a favour and get a hobby outside of the Internet
no mate just pointing out facts of the situation - people that sit on these posts complain how visa changes are being made or enforced forget the main point - its a privledge - they can wake up tomorrow and suspend the visa exempt program for any nation they see fit or all together - thats the reality of it - then make everyone apply for a tourist visa
yes all true but you would question the logic of it to a certain extent . Tourism isn’t exactly booming even border runs bring in decent money but with that you rather have spenders or cheap Charlie’s . Either way they should make more visas options would help .
how many visa options do you need for a holiday? There are visa free entries and several tourist visas plus a few longer term visas. Pretty good and better than many other countries.
I’m not on about a holiday I am on about people having to use visa runs as their is very limited options for long term if your under 50 dtv is latest one and that’s a technically a tourist visa that can be scrapped when ever . I know plenty of people who come here on a holiday 6 months of the year every year as a holiday you have plenty of people that do well an vacation half the year . They complain about tourism but make it harder for people hence why tourism is down in Thailand up in Vietnam . That’s not complaining that’s just facts on what they complain about and then the choices they make . But me personally I’m not on about holiday visa I’m on about the lack of actual visa to live here and for people to have to use them . Grand if you’re over 50 under 50 and want a long term plan to live here it’s challenging . It’s their country so their rules but be nice if they made more options would benefit expats and the Thai economy
im 41 ive been here since may I dont do visa runs i dont have a DTV - Im here on a student visa - what you are talking about is people who do visa runs do it because they simply dont want to apply for a visa. If they can afford to leave and come back every 60 days paying a company to ensure their entry they can afford to pay for a student visa enroll in classes the attendance requirement is very relaxed 😌 and there are good programs you can enroll in. What my comment was about obtaining the proper visa that fits why you are here. Visa exempt was established to boost tourism 90 days - for tourism 60 days is more than enough. DTV isnt going anywhere people dont like it now due to bank accounts are being restricted and thats being done due to fraud. The visa exempt loophole is being tightened up due to fraud and abuse.
a dtv visa is not getting you anywhere long term it’s a visa that can be scrapped when ever the government feel like it’s a tourist visa . A student visa sure it’s an option but not everybody wants to spend 10 hours per week learning Thai I have done it as it’s good to know Thai if here long term but an education visa is still not a long term play
you're confusing visa exempt for tourists coming on holiday with those who want to use it to live in Thailand without a visa. Not many countries pander to people who want to stay long term with no visa and no job. There's a DTV for those who want a longer legal stay.
I think you can’t read or your missing the memo hence people have no other choice but to use it as theirs limited options I am well aware the meaning of tourist visa but with limited visa options obviously you will have people using it for other reasons .
that's the point! People using it for other reasons is exactly why they have had to tighten up rules. You've just confirmed you think using visa exempt tourist entry to live in a country, is ok. Try that in your own country.
your confusing rights and privledge - they can revoke your visa without cause and there is nothing you can do for it. For someone who has been here for 10 years you havent figured out that they change things on the go - most things they make announcement of never get enforced. You clearly haven't seen the abuse of the exempt they are dealing with and illegal activities - its their right to make things changes to what they call rules - IO still have the right to look at someone with visa exempt and deny them 😉
- I never mentioned anything about “rights” or “privilege” so not sure how I am confusing the two. I also never said that they couldn’t revoke a visa without cause, but we were not even talking about visas, we were talking about extensions on visa exemptions (meaning no visa). I also never said that they don’t “change things on the go”. I am literally saying they said they are changing things, and you said nothing had changed (but in this last message you said they change things on the go). Also, not sure what “enforcement” had to do with the original statements back and forth. I also never said I didn’t see the abuse, you said there were no changes and I said yes there are changes. You are now ranting at me about their right to make changes to rules. Again, I never said they couldn’t, I just said that they made changes.
under a year - and I dont complain when they tighten up their visa policy due to fraud and abuse - why i said you dont sound like someone who been here 10 years in my first 3 months they do alot of changing switching or talking about changes. I would assume someone been here for 10 years would have been used to that by now - let me guess you spent years here on visa exempt and now upset cause you cant ?
exactly. Just got off phone with Thai and Canadian officials 60 days visa exempt which can be extended 30 days. For Canadian citizens anyways. Maybe there are changes for other countries?
yes, but you can only do that once .if you enter again in a calender year and you enter on 60 day visa exempt , if you try to get a 30 day extention you will only get a 7 days extention which is issued so you can arrange to get out of Thailand
It's the same for those already on list for 60 days without visa. The "change" is not really a change but a tightening up of current entry rules. Too many people have used back to back entries with extensions so they can live in Thailand without visas. Unfortunately it has 'caught up' those who can do a 6 month vacation to escape their winters using no visa "visa exempt".
I also thought they would use the ‘Extension Denied’ stamp and give you the standard seven days to leave the country, but it turns out they’re issuing a sort of mini-extension instead: a regular 30-day stamp that they simply cross out and replace with ‘7 days’ written by hand. Either way—you still only have seven days, and y ou must leave the country within that time.😉
Check feedback from people who did their extension at Lak Si in Bangkok yesterday. Those who had already done an extension earlier this year were given only 7 days, meaning they were stamped in for 30 days which was then crossed out, and ‘7 days’ was written in pen. (So not the usual ‘7-day extension denied’ stamp.)
Let’s wait and see until Monday, but the information regarding the situation at Lak Si yesterday was posted by one of the moderators on this page earlier today.
it re starts every year ..Get one now.....wait until 2026 and and you are good ás gold to get another one. The Thais resett all immigration and visa entry every new year. Get one in November, happy days , come back in Feb or March...sorted. 60 date entry and 30 days extension. Áfter that ...your fucked
