Hi all, I cancelled my ED visa in March after spending 8 months in Thailand. I want to do 2 weeks in Australia working and 2 weeks in Thailand for the next 6 months. So I’ll need a metv. Some recommend getting a new passport first so less likely to run into problems at immigration? Any advice would be appreciated thankyou

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on applying for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) after canceling their Education (ED) visa in Thailand. They are planning to spend two weeks working in Australia followed by two weeks in Thailand for the next six months. Some comments suggest that obtaining a new passport won't be beneficial due to existing biometric records, while others reassure the user that as long as their previous ED visa was legitimate and they comply with visa regulations, obtaining the METV should not pose problems. Concerns about entry denial at immigration based on the ED visa history were also discussed.

Why are you worrying if your ED Visa was legit?

Lots of Aussies working in the mines do 2 weeks on 2 weeks in Thailand. The ones I know have a retirement visa

The only problem you might have is if you do not have the normal 90 day extensions of your ED visa. If you have these then no problem, but if you don't then you will have problems.

I don’t see why you should run into problems if you had a regular ED visa/extension you canceled it and you will now get a multiple TR visa. As long as you satisfy the conditions to have it you’ll be absolutely fine. They will be more than happy to see you come and go as a tourist. What they don’t like is finding people staying with a different purpose than the permission they have to enter the country. If you use the visa exempt to live here you will get caught as you are using the visa exempt that is a short term permission to stay long term. If you use the TR multientry to come and go it’s exactly the purpose so you’ll be fine.

Metv still does not guarantee entry if they dont like you on the day and some say the Ed visa can make them question you more.

I also do 2 and 2 any fly every month, was using scoot but the last 4 flights they have been delayed with this weeks delayed from Saturday return to Tuesday. I will go check out thai see if their service is reliable for fortnightly flights.

As Darren said new passport means nothing it’s all on computer when you have entered and left.

Thanks mate what visa are you on then? Just visa exempt?

Thai airways seem very overpriced still. Hopefully they come down soon.

i used to fly exempt for 6 years. Being over 50 i have retirement OX 5 year visa now.

They are all overpriced. Scoot suited my roster better but by the time you buy the extra,s they are not much cheaper, i did enjoy the $6 board first option with scoot.

A new passport won't help considering it's biometrics and your finger prints are on file everytime you enter and leave Thailand 🤷

do you understand how the biometrics work? When the OP comes back he will need to supply fingerprints.. do you understand that the fingerprints are unique and all details relating to such finger printing checking will auto-populate on the IO's system. (also Immigration do not care how long the line is by the way).. So, if multiple 'passports' appear, of course they will take a look, and make sure it is not suspicious. Do you not think 'criminals' have tried this before? Recently some-one from UK I think it was tried to get back into Thailand after 15 years on a new passport (being a wanted person in Thai for 15 years) and got arrested! Sorry, but I disagree totally with your statement.
