TLDR : Answer Summary
The question pertains to the rules surrounding a six-month multi-entry tourist visa (METV) for Thailand. Users in the comments clarify that there is no official limit on the amount of time one can spend in Thailand within a year, and people have reportedly stayed in Thailand for extended periods on consecutive tourist visas. However, to apply for another six-month METV, the individual would need to return to Australia after their time in Cambodia.
Okay I misread your post. There is NO official amount of time you can be in thailand during a year. Some websites and immigration offices quote a rule but it was rescinded LONG ago.
I know people who have been here almost continually on back-2-back tourist visas for years. I know people who are on their THIRD 6 month METV here <-meaning they've been here almost 27 months (because you can get almost 9 months of stay out of an METV).
Karen, you are asking about a 6 month visa. and the only 6 month visa to thailand is a 6 month METV <- multi-entry tourist visa. It is valid for stays of 60 days at a time for the validity of the visa itself (6 months from the date it's issued.
You can re-enter Thailand immediately after your 6 months in Cambodia, however you'd need to return to Australia if you wanted to apply for another 6 month multi entry tourist visa
