TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual asked if they need to return to Thailand to keep their DTV visa active after being abroad for 3 months, and there is a general consensus in the comments that as long as they return before the visa's 5-year expiry, they can enter Thailand anytime within that period.

Did you already do your first 90 day reporting?

what's that?

I exited after 90 days and came to Vietnam

And planning to go again

Anonieme deelnemer when you stay 90 days without leaving, you have to report at immigration with TM47.

This has to be done every 90 days, but resets when you leave the country.

Anonieme deelnemer when you got out the country already after the moment you should report, better leave it for now. Since yhe counter resets every time you get in, at the moment you are OK. They can see you missed one report, but normally this will not harm you, only when you need something from immigration they might fine you for this.

The reporting is only every 90 days when you are in the country, counter resetting when you reenter.

So when you travel outside the country at least once in 3 months, you never have to do this reporting.

But since it is free and only passport and TM30 is needed, it is not worth to do a border bounce only for this.

He limit is when the visa ends, which is 5 years after you got it.

You can come back anytime during that period.

You can only enter within the validity period of your visa. So anytime between date of issue and it’s 5 year expiry date.
