What are my options for extending my stay in Thailand after my current TM7 extension?

Wanting sanity check on this. My US obtained METV (valid until Oct 31) and my last METV border bounce got me admitted until Dec 25, 2018. My CM approved TM7 extension takes me to January 25 2019. I believe a second CM TM7 30 day request will result in a denial with 7 days to vacate? So – to get 60 more days I’m thinking Vientaine for SETV (20,000 bht, proof of onward travel and accommodations) or just a visa run to Mae Sai for 30 day new visa exempt stamp ? Also if I do the Mae Sai option for a new 30 day visa exempt does the new 30 days start immediately upon entry into thailand or does it tack onto the TM7 extension?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering options for extending their stay in Thailand after the expiration of their TM7 extension. They have a METV valid until October 31, which allows them a stay until December 25, 2018. They are contemplating two options: a visa run to Mae Sai for a new 30-day visa exempt stamp or traveling to Vientiane for a SETV, which would grant them an additional 60 days. The conversation confirms that a new visa period would start immediately upon entry into Thailand, regardless of the current TM7 extension.

Your stamp sounds like Jan 24 instead of Jan 25... Better to make sure your stamp date in case you want to do border-run or visa-run on the last day of current stamp...

just so you're clear. To get a tourist visa from the thai consulate in vientiane AND to enter the Nong Khai land border you do NOT need to show proof of funds, proof of onward travel OR proof of a hotel booking. That consulate doesn't require any of those and neither does that land border.

Do I need proof of funds if I'm applying for a Non immigrant O multiple in Vientiane?

For both options it is the same, the moment you leave Thailand you lose your Admitted to stay inside Thailand, you get stamped out of Thailand. If you return with the SETV or without at Mae Sai you get a new Admitted to Stay period. With the SETV for 60 days, with the Visa Exempt Entry 30 days and for both the day of arrival is day number 1
