**farangs can do Border-run unlimited times (not only twice a year)

Is this true? if this is true, then I can stay in Thailand as long as I want, as long as I take border-run?**

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion around border runs in Thailand highlights a lack of explicit limits on how many times one can use a visa exemption to enter the country. While technically, there is no official cap, many expats report that immigration officers may scrutinize frequent entries, especially after several months of stay. Some people advocate for obtaining a long-term visa to avoid issues with immigration. Ultimately, success with border runs varies depending on individual circumstances and the discretion of immigration officers.

there are services in which you can technically do it but when you leave and re-enter the country, esp. through Bangkok, passport control (obviously) don't like this and you'll likely face a lot of questions... better to go for DTV or ed visa

You think you could stay in Thailand indefinitely when entries were not specifically limited only by air?

Ok so based on what was being said about being able to do more border runs now I decided to go to the Cambodia boarder and see what the visa agents there say as this would be my third time this year, and so if they say can I would do and if say cannot I would book to go out by air for a couple of days, the border agent said yes can do, the price is now 3k baht up from 2k but still fair price (includes the 1400 Cambodia visa fee), so I went through and back with them and after my Thai side stamp back in an IO officer asked me if I had contacted anyone at the border that day which I had not, he then checked my stamp and said ah ok you get 60 day now and can do again in 60 day, I said ok so can do many many now and he said yes, so as that was direct from an IO I would say that for a while atleast the two times has been removed, but I do think it may come back and as others have said it is always at the discretion of the IO if you get in and so I agree that border bounces should not be relied upon, however while talking about this with a friend it did occur to me that if someone is now in Thailand for more than 180 days they maybe asked to fill out a tax form, so in a way a higher limit to bounces would maybe encourage younger (remote working) people to stay longer and become tax liable and so it could bring in more funds for Thailand so that maybe a consideration, but I for one am now trying to get stuff together for the DTV.

Since August 2023, I’ve stayed in Thailand for 9 months on 3 different tourist visas . In between all visits I spent time in my country :) . Never had any questions asked. It’s best to be prepared for potential questions, such as proof of funds and hotel bookings . Based on things I’ve heard from other people, they will usually give you a warning before not letting you in . It’s just best to be prepared and in some cases better to just get a visa you need .

According to an Immi officer, you can do the 60 days stay without limits/year.

See the Bangkok Post report about this subject.

@Gunnar *****
, it is not true. You can only do border crossing twice a year but for air travel you can travel in and out of Thailand as many times as you want.

there is no limit on border crossings anymore, however it is still down to the IO you're facing at the time.

Unlimited is a bad choice of wording, the previous visa exempt land entry limit has been removed. Now land entries are treated the same as air entries

It’s up to the IO if he feels you spent too much time in Thailand on exempt stamps you will be denied entry

I’ve been 3 times on tourist visa in the last 6 months. The first visit I overstayed my visit for 17 days. On my 2nd and 3rd visit they stopped me and asked me tonnes of questions. Almost didn’t let me in 😂

You can't get the elite visa if you've had an overstay more than 72 hours in the past 7 years.

Elite used say more than one overstay in the last three years was the criteria. He'd be under that. And they may well be loosening up now, both Elite and immigration side.

Yes, and no.

There is no limit written into law about how many times you can enter Thailand without a visa now.

You cannot stay in Thailand as long as you want. Once your pattern no longer matches that of a tourist (visa exempt is a tourist entry) the immigration officers will start pulling you aside and questioning you for 1 or more hours and warning you that you cannot live in Thailand without a long term visa. Whether this happens the 3rd time you enter Thailand or the 7th time you enter Thailand, no one can tell you. It's up to each individual immigration officer. Most people have started to experience problems entering Thailand after spending 5-6 months in the country.

great answer, and I'm sure they will focus more on the ones, (like myself) that spend almost 6 months in Thailand, due to working internationally, with the new interpretation of the Thai tax laws.

I have been here ten years, most of that on tourist visas. You assume some risk but I find it worth it. You may not be able to do unlimited border bounces (or you can, nobody knows), but if you're creative and determined you can stay here a long time on tourist visas.

Excuse me, but is this your opinion or fact? Considering the new visa rules have just started, how do you know about pattern-matching? How do you know about "1 hour questioning"? And how do you know about the "most people" encountering issues after spending time in the country since it has only been a month or so? Overstaying has always been an issue regardless of visa rules.

if you are fairly new to Thailand, the first thing you will learn is that the law always refers to..... this is the law but it is up to the individual/ immagration officers discretion..... so no matter what the law says they always leave room for their authority in place. Never argue and say "the law says" you will create your own downfall.....

Sorry, I wasn't being rude, but wanting clarification. But I do have a question. Can you not stay for say 89 days, leave the country (for example visit Malaysia or Singapore), come back after a week, stay another 89 days, do another visa-run, and come back again? Is that not possible? No overstaying, just coming in and out. My thoughts are that I won't stay full time in Thailand, only for the periods when it is cold back home. Thanks.

if you can demonstrate that you are an active travelling tourist

YES

if not

you will be questioned

possibly not allowed entry

told to get the correct visa

I got pulled aside once doing the same thing. It was only a 20 minute conversation. The Immigration Officer gave me some advice and sent me on my way.

Part of his advice was to stay out of Thailand 2-3 weeks each visa run.

you can definitely get away with that if you use a land border bounce agency to leave and return. They grease the wheels to make sure you can get back into Thailand without any issues
