TLDR : Answer Summary
The person inquiring about a 4-month stay in Thailand can consider several options: obtaining a 60-day visa exemption, potentially extending it for an additional 30 days, followed by exiting and reentering Thailand for a fresh 60-day exemption. Other suggestions include a multiple entry tourist visa or the Long Term Resident (LTR) visa, though the latter requires a significant financial commitment. Travelers should be aware of the risks related to consecutive visa exemptions, as this could lead to entry denials.

Visa exemption for 60 days, border hop, visa exemption for 60 days πŸ‘

If you have a 60 day visa exempt entry, just do a border bounce for another 60 days. I have just done that and am here for 4 months also, on long service leave.

you better DON'T take a 30 days extension on top of your first visa-exempt entry. Avoid to maxx out your first visa-exempt stay. . . . . . . Rather exit before the 60 days stay permit expires, stay in a neighbour country for a week, and come back on a second visa exempt. You will then be able to show proof of the return flight to your home country, as proof of onmward travel, which can be asked by an airline and the Thai Immigration border official. The success is guaranteed. This itinerary is that of a "real" tourist and not of somebody who tries to live in Thailand on touristic entries and their extensions

If you hold a passport that allows visa exempt stay 60 days, fly to Vietnam, Taiwan, Philippines for a few days come back for another 60 days
Greg ***********
@Andrew *******
exactly, and your advice confirms what I advised the OP to do: don't maximize the first 60 days stay - meaning, do NOT get the 30 days extension! Do a border run before the 60 days stay permit expires, remain outside of Thailand for a few days or even a week, and upon return make sure you got the 3 proofs. You will be stamped in for another 60 days stay , this is almost guaranteed

I would simply plan a trip over a border.

Often this is a great part of holiday.

60 on arrival plus 30 day extension then I recommend fly in fly out to a local country and that will give you 60 days on arrival again. Only cost would be return flight, accommodation in the location you fly to and the immigration fee or alternative option is just to maximise your 60 days on arrival and fly in fly out to get the new 60 days in arrival and you would save on the 3o day extension fee at thai immigration

if your plan consists of stay for 4 months, and to achieve this by two visa-exempt entries, you better DON'T take a 30 days extension on top of your first visa-exempt entry. Avoid to maxx out your first visa-exempt stay. . . . . . . Rather exit before the 60 days stay permit expires, stay in a neighbour country for a week, and come back on a second visa exempt. The OP will then be able to show proof of the return flight to his home country, as proof of onward travel, which can be asked by an airline and the Thai Immigration border official. The success is guaranteed. This itinerary is that of a "real" tourist and not of somebody who tries to live in Thailand on touristic entries and their extensions
Chris *******
If you qualify for 60 day visa exempt, stay 60 days and leave.

Reenter and receive another 60 days.

No need to pay for a 30 day extension and still have to border bounce.

No and no. For non-o based on marriage you need 400k for non-o based on retirement you need 800k. Sure you can maybe use agents if you have the funds for that.
Fulvio *********
@Gardar **************************
Tank You, so what kind of Thai visa can I get in the Malaysian Thai Embassy with less than 400k thai bath in thai Bank account? Now I get in Surat Thani immigrazion the marriege estention visa until 24 April 2026. Any advice for next year becouse I Will be sure unther 400k next year, Tank You ❀️
Gardar ***************************
@Fulvio ********
since you are married to Thai you can still get non-o based on marriage to get 90 days on entry but for the extension need to have 400k in bank 2-3 months prior. But since you gonna be under, I would look into agents.
Fulvio *********
@Michael *******
if I have less Thani 400k in the thai Bank account can I applay for exstantion of my marriege Visa or retired Visa in Thai Embassy in Malaysia (Penang)? I did 15 yes ago, but I heard that It Is changed now or only on line visa. If you or someone else know how Is It now, please explain to me πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Tourist visa is not an O visa, think you are confusing the two.

DTV.
Jordan *****
@Ralph ******
who would go through the hassle to apply for DTV for a 4 month stay? Visa exempt all the way
Ralph *******
@Jordan ****
Visa exempt is not guaranteed. You may be denied entry on your return.
Jordan *****
@Ralph ******
not for people who are on their first trip to Thailand. I have more than 20 visa exempt in more than a decade. Just returned for my second 2 month trip this year from Poipet
Ralph *******
@Jordan ****
Yes so have I. Returned end of May after two months. Will go back for another two months in September.

The issue is the back to back exemptions. I see more cases on these pages of travellers being refused. I’ve even seen it (rarely) where a traveller without a history of border runs was refused. The point is that there’s no guarantee.
Gardar ***************************
Just come on 60 day visa extempt + 30 day extension then border run for new 60 days if you haven't extended history into the country

lol up to OP. And stay one week is another country? Lost your mind? Just take a minivan border run service if Cambodia border is open again

@Gardar **************************
but well just believe in the BS you are pulling out of your nose. You will meet plain facts sooner or laterπŸ˜‰
Gardar ***************************
@Greg **********
bs? First time I came I stayed 44 days, went border run came back in then border run again before I learned about extension so stayed 4 months without issues. Second time I stayed 6 months, this time both times on tourist visa again no issues. So mr. Professional stop trying to scare people, there isn't an official limit but immigration like to scare people there is.

Of course it's has changed alot and I know that. So please mr funny boy, go find someone else to bother. Thank you
Greg ***********
@Gardar **************************
you are just very CLOSE to the final. I am not your Mister Fun, I am an Immigration Volunteer. I would never snitch on you, but what you are doing is gonna raise some eyebrows sooner or later. Go get the right visa for a longstay.

@Greg **********
sure you are 🀣🀣 and no shit Sherlock.
Greg ***********
@Gardar **************************
I hope this serves you as a warning. You can't fool a border official with consecutive 60-days Tourist Visa if your stamp history shows repeated entries. You will soon find out by yourself. A guide and recommendation from the well known "visa guru"

@Gardar **************************
believing the crap you believe. But please don't shit in your pants when it happens to you. Send me a note about your experiences, so we can post it all over the groups and have a good laugh

@Greg **********
deleting your post now? 🀣 Aw you found a post from Tod, congratulations πŸ‘why would I shit my pants when I can get non-o? Hmm πŸ˜‚ thanks for being so funny, appreciated it 😁

@Greg **********
again deleting your post when you know you are wrong so clearly you not so smart as you think. Well congratulations at you chatting with Tod, anyone on this forums prolly has done that in one point even me. So congrats you are not special, only thing you are a entitled pos 🀣

Greg ***********
@Gardar **************************
Myself I am on an EOS based on retirement since 18 years. You talk about repeated visa-exempt entries. You are DREAMING . . Immigration is cracking down on those. Go get your proper visa and leave smart people alone. And stop posting BS
Greg ***********
@Gardar **************************
read from the "visa guru" !
Greg ***********
@Gardar **************************
you are talking about a long ago past. Since the 60 days visa-exempt got introduced on July 15, 2024 - Immigration officers stance has changed a lot
Greg ***********
@Gardar **************************
and you have absolutely no idea about what to try to tell us. Your advice ist completely useless
Greg ***********
@Gardar **************************
the Cambodia borders have never been closed since the clashes in Chong Bok. They just cut on their service hours
Gardar ***************************
@Greg **********
used both visa run company and done it myself in the past, sure many reports if you done two visa extempt an trying getting in on your third. But yes you are right I'm unaware with the Cambodian border since not done border run since 2023 then I choose to fly out in 2024 by myself and was only few days outside the country before entring again.

Also reason why I stated if you haven't an extended history going in the country. Less likely you won't get an hassle from the immigration, sure you might meet someone with a bad hair day.
Greg ***********
@Gardar **************************
NEVER do that by yourself. Use a "Visarun Company". Only these guys gurantee a seamless border run on the same day. You seem to have little knowledge of what is going on at the borders at the moment regarding visa-exempt entries. Hundreds of people have been denied entry in the past months. It's exactly those people who had taken the 30 days extension, and are refused a second visa-exempt entry because they try to maxx out their stay in Thailand . . it is all over the FB groups. Beware!
Jordan *****
You can easily do a border run. When I don’t have a long term visa I spend 4 months a year here, two trips by car and I never got

questioned in more than a decade, so it seems acceptable

But don’t try it more than 4 months
Stanley *******
@Jordan ****
I done 60day visa done the 30 extension then done a border run for 3 days came back with a 60 day extension then back ,another 30 days at ministry but left with 7 days still on visa no problem,
Michael **********
@Stanley ******
So you were able to stay for 90+90 days? (Minus the 7 days left early)
Stanley *******
Greg ***********
@Jordan ****
