TLDR : Answer Summary
For a stay of 2-3 months in Thailand, you have a couple of options. The Single Entry Tourist Visa allows for a 60-day stay, which can be extended for an additional 30 days. Alternatively, if you're an American citizen, you can enter Thailand without a visa and receive a 30-day visa exemption on arrival, which can also be extended by 30 days for a fee. It's important to apply for the appropriate visa before departing, based on your nationality and plans.
Are you American? If so you can go with out a visa like I did. You get 30 day visa exempt on arrival . Then you go to a immigration office during your 1st or 2nd week & get a 30 day extension for 1900 baht. If you want more than 60 days get visa in the USA or leave Thailand on 59 th day . Fly to KL for couple days then go back Thailand get another 60.
The Single Entry Tourist Visa gives you 60 days of Stay and you can extend this stay with another 30 days. You have to use this Visa within 90 days after it is put inside your passport.
you BUY a single entry tourist visa from a thai consulate in your country BEFORE you wing your way here. OR buy one from a thai consulate in a neighboring S/E Asian country
