TLDR : Answer Summary
For a stay of 3-4 months in Thailand, you can opt for a 60-day visa exemption upon arrival, which can be extended for an additional 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of ฿1,900. Alternatively, you could consider doing a border run to renew your visa exemption, allowing for a similar process again. It's suggested to check with the Thai Embassy in Australia for detailed inquiries.
You can do visa exempt for 60 days with 30 day extension. You dont have to apply for it just show up and fill out tdac 3 days before you arrive.
If you need more time after first extension goto another country for a few days then come back. Do not do it in the same day.

Why not just come over get a 60 day visa exemption stamp, then go to the immigration office pay ฿1,900 Thai baht for a 30 day extension….
After that do a border bounce either by land or air and get another 60 day visa exemption stamp which you can also extend for 30 day at the immigration office for ฿1,900 Thai baht
It’s easier and cheaper than getting a visa
