TLDR : Answer Summary
To stay in Thailand for 6 months with your Thai wife, you can apply for a 90-day Non-O visa from the UK, based on your marriage. After arriving in Thailand, you can apply for a one-year extension of stay based on marriage at the immigration office. This extension allows you to stay longer without leaving the country; however, you must report your address every 90 days. Also, make sure to check with the Thai consulate or embassy for the latest visa policies and regulations.

Just get a 1 year married visa easier than trying to extend

Just read up on the Thai Embassy web site about this or call them to get accurate info. My friend gets a 12 month visa due to Thai wife He comes home every year to renew it.

Just get Non-O (Married) 90 days in The UK and than change to 1 year inside of Thailand. (90 days address reporting at the immigration in Thailand)

Jarkko Takamaa you are confused :(

They are NOT the same thing at all

There is a yearly EXTENSION OF STAY that you get from the immigration office INSIDE the country based on marriage. <- that one lets you stay inside for a year and only do 90 day reporting

AND

There is a year-long, multi-entry Non-O VISA that you get from a thai consulate in another country BEFORE you wing your way here <- that visa ONLY stamps you in for 90 days and when it runs out you go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in and out of another country and right back into thailand to get a NEW 90 day stamp, you do that for the whole year the visa is good for

Jarkko Takamaa yep thats my understanding too

he might indeed get a visa that is valid for 12 months based on marriage to a thai BUT he can't stay IN thailand any longer than 90 days at a time

Get a single entry spouse visa, come to thailand (when its open) , get a yearly extension. The amount of time you spend in thailand each year is irrelevant on a yearly extension as long as you get a re entry permit if you leave. Your age is irrelevant and health insurance isn't needed for a spouse visa/extension.

Your first hurdle will be to find out when someone from the UK can enter Thailand

You have many option, you an apply for the 6-month METV or 1 year Non-O (Married a Thai wife) from England.

@Nina *****
You cant get a 1 year Non Imm O (married) in England only a 90 day.

@Steve ******
You will get a Non-O (Married) 90 day from England, and after you entering to Thailand before your visa expried 30 day, you can apply 1 year inside of Thailand, as long as you have 400,000 THB in a Thai bank.

@Nina *****

Assuming that things return to what they were pre-covid, you will need to select which visa you want to use. A combination of in-country extensions and border bounces can string out a visa for longer than you might think.

Hull has the reputation as most helpful consulate in the UK.

If youโ€™re in England then you can call the Consulate general at Hull or Liverpool, or the embassy in London and they will provide you with all the details.
